Are there any prep schools that do not have an assessment prior to reception admittance?

We are very happy with the Roche School, Putney. No assessment but need to register as early as possible.

Good luck!

St Mary's in Hampstead, a lovely Catholic prep my DD attends - great grounds (for this location), very nice teachers, the school itself (the building) has very nice cosy and welcoming athmosphere, moral ethos seems to be of utmost importance. I'm not religious (and not RC) and am very happy with the curriculum. Leavers destinations are also good (you can check on webiste). Last year's girls all went to the usual - NLCS, St Paul's, Francis Holland, Channing, Habs etc. Not a hot house. Amazing music teacher. Bus to school in the morning - we are only 5 mins drive away but it's handy not to be stuck in traffic. They can take into Nursery from 2.9 y.o. with no assessment but other years are assessed on entry, I understand. They take boys up to Y1.

Norfolk House in Muswell Hill too, if that isn't too far.

Do you have boys or girls? Of the top of my head, the schools I know of which do not assess are:

Queen's College Prep (girls)
Sarum Hall (girls)
The Lyceum (mixed)
Dallington (mixed)
Charterhouse Square (mixed)
The American School in London (mixed)

These are all in quite different parts of London though.

One caveat - most of these involve some form of parent interview. Depending on the school, you may not get a whole lot of choice over when this is.

Re Newton Prep - ds got in but in the end we went with the Roche - which doesn't require an assessment - he is year 4 now and his class teacher says she doesn't see him having any problem getting into KCS or Alleyns which are two schools we are interested in. The reason I'm telling you is that despite being non-selective the Roche gets kids into great schools - ds's friends who are year 6 have got into St Paul's and KCS respectively. It's in Putney/Wandsworth and I can't recommend it enough!

OP - come back and let is know how you get on! It's interesting to see how long distance applications work out.
