What do your Dc do before school?

I have just been on another thread about what Dc do after school and it made me ponder on what you all do with your Dc before school? So I can compare notes too. Smile

At the mo we are up at 7.30, breakfast, washed/dressed, watch a bit of tv, Dc usually complain they don't want to go to school, coats/bags on and in school. Although we don't have a mad rush or any major incidents they always seem tired (even though they get enough sleep) and not very 'enthusiastic' about entering school tbh.

So what do you do?

I usually have to put them on the top of the piano! My 2yo DS likes to wear any shoe he comes across and hide it when he's finished. Much like a puppy.

SantanaBinLorry · 09/03/2016 14:37

Top a the joanna, good a place as any Grin
I have a sock discarder though, at least two pairs a day. Im sure he eats them.

Gobbolino6 · 09/03/2016 15:17

Haha!

Sunbeam18 · 09/03/2016 18:50

Ds wakes me/dh about 4.30....play quietly/iPad/TV until 6.
Breakfast
Dh and I get ready while dcs watch TV/play
Dh goes to work
Dds get themselves dressed, hair done etc
I get D's dressed
Dds get their bags ready, while I sort lunches help with bags and D's watches TV/cuts a piece of paper into a million pieces/makes an enormous mess
Dds join D's while I run around like a maniac getting everything by front door and forcing D's into his splints/coat/discover he has done a poo etc
Leave house laden down like a small army
Walk to bus stop where girls get bus to school
Walk D's to school

Amazing so many of you get to take your kids to school! I am up at 7 and get ready for work, DD up at 7.15/7.30am - dressed, teeth, bit if tv if time and leave at 7.50am to go to the childminders. She had breakfast there and goes to school.

suitcaseofdreams · 09/03/2016 19:48

On my work days (3 days a week) I get up at 6.30am and get myself ready. Get them up at 7am (5yr old twins)
They eat breakfast, get dressed, teeth cleaned, shoes on, leave at 7.40am for breakfast club (where they eat breakfast again!)

Non work days we all get up about 7.30, have a more leisurely breakfast and then teeth, shoes etc and leave 8.40am for school

No time for anything other than eat, dress, teeth and go though on any day - neither of them like getting out of bed and there's lots of whingeing, whining and complaining throughout the above which slows us down and most mornings we are running close to being late...I HATE the morning routine...

Ameliablue · 09/03/2016 19:52

They go on bus and we go to work so no time to do anything but get ready.

Alanna1 · 09/03/2016 19:53

Wake up. Shower. Wake kids if not up. Breakfast for everyone. DC1 has physio exercises to do. Everyone get dressed. If doing well for time DC2 gets time focussing on a special need she has which we manage about 50% of the time.

PosieReturningParker · 09/03/2016 20:17

Get up alone at sixish and drink a tea or coffee before waking the kids. Then they get dressed and make their own breakfast, go upstairs and clean teeth. When everything is ready, bags packed, shoes found, etc they are sometimes allowed screen time.

lavendersun · 09/03/2016 20:27

We get up between 5 and 6 depending on the day. Dd gets up 7 ish. We all have breakfast together. 7:30 dressed/teeth etc which takes far longer than it should.

We either leave at 7:45 or 8:35 depending on the day. Any 'spare' time would be spent reading, music or Lego - her choice entirely. I am just grateful she is actually dressed most mornings as she is still a faffer.

CocktailQueen · 09/03/2016 20:34

6.30 - alarm
Kids set table for breakfast, dd makes porridge, I supervise and make tea.
7 - leave table. Dd does teeth and hair and dresses.
7.20 - drive dd to bus stop for school bus
7.30 - home. Reading with DS, maths game, football in lounge, or card game.
8 - he goes to do teeth and get dressed.
8.10 - I do dishwasher, put on on wash, get dressed and do teeth.
8.30 - leave. School starts 8.45.
9 - home to start my day!

PrimalLass · 09/03/2016 20:55

They lie around and stare at screens. We don't have to leave until 5 to 9!

runningouttaideas · 09/03/2016 21:01

OK there are some pretty insanely busy mornings going on here. I am actually embarrassed to even try to compare with those.

Really like the idea of having DS making some scrambled egg on toast and a cup of tea, not for himself but for me Grin.

Turning the TV off may be a way to go because I must admit my DC do seem a lot like zombies too. Maybe a crafty brain booster will help with the don't wanna go school attitude. Hmm

Gobolin I don't have to do that. I usually spend my time tripping over my DS's shoes and then trip over them again AFTER he has moved them!

DH and I both work in the same school as our children go to.

Alarm goes at 5.30 and I get uniform/shirt/blouse ironed and DH gets lunch boxes done. I then go and shower.

6am and I wake up the DC. DC1 is year 9 and sorts himself out (showers, dresses, breakfast, packs school stuff in the car, if he has enough time then he'll do a house job bins, dishwasher, washing machine.)

DC2, year 5 but ASD gets in the shower and I will wash his hair for him, he gets himself washed. Gets dressed, breakfast, hair and teeth, sorts out school stuff (library bag, PE bag, swim bag, homework etc.) Puts his stuff in the car. It's usually time to go by the time he's done this as he is so slow.

DC3, year 4. Has breakfast, shower and dressed, hair and teeth, sorts out school stuff (library bag, PE bag, swim bag, homework etc.) Puts his stuff in the car. Will do any little jobs that need to be done if he has enough time.

Me, after I've washed DS1's hair, have breakfast, any jobs that need doing, research work stuff, check work emails, keep on top of DS2, pack my bits in car.

DH, after he has done lunch boxes, has breakfast, showers, dresses etc. Puts his stuff in the car.

7am leave for school to be there no later than 7.20. Help DC2 get his stuff ready for the day. The boys will then play in the playground unti 7.45 when school starts. We start at 7.30.

Topsy34 · 09/03/2016 22:08

We are usually up by 7 as ds2 will be up and want feeding.

Ds1 is 6, the rule is be dressed with teeth and hair brushed, shoes by the door, bag by the door and then he can watch cbbc/cbeebies on ipad.

I make his breakfast and check his school dinner choice. He sometimes needs encouraging to eat breakfast, but otherwise all good

If he isn't ready, no ipad. We leave at 8.30

NoSquirrels · 09/03/2016 22:08

7.00 alarm
7.20-7.30 out of bed & wake DC
7.35-8.00 breakfast (DC) caffeine (me)
8.00 shower/teeth etc. (me), get dressed (DC)
8.10 get dressed (me), shout at still undressed DC (me)
8.15 teeth/face washing (DC), shouting (me)
8.20 shoes/bags/coats (DC), shouting (me)
8.25 leave (in theory)

Absolutely no TV or screen time. God forbid. I know the traumas of turning it off partway through a programme, and I am not up for that in the mornings. DC1 sometimes up and reading/drawing before us, but most often having to be roused from the sleep of the dead!

Madcats · 10/03/2016 11:08

Today started at about 6am DH had to be out the house just before 7 (I have custody of DD's iPad)
6am: DD(8) stumbles downstairs, having noticed DH was up (otherwise she stays in bedroom 'til 6:30). Cat fed. DD has probably "clicked" I have (re)moved the iPad, so reads and draws and chats to DH who was out with workmates last night.
6:15: I get a cup of tea in bed(!) and get to listen to radio 4 for 30 mins before venturing downstairs Smile
6:45: Delighted DD is mostly dressed for school, make her eat some cereal in addition to the toast DH gave her and remind her she needs to learn her lines for a play next week!
7:15: I'm now washed & dressed and back downstairs, gather up all the kit for school (clean DD's shoes, sort out hairstyle)
7:30 DD suddenly decides to practice for her music lesson this morning (10 mins)
7:45 Off to school
Lots of music groups and (in the summer) tennis/cricket coaching happens from 8am at DD's school.

If DD has been at a sleepover we wake her up at 7:30 with porridge cooling downstairs, virtually dress her and we're still out the door by 8

WipsGlitter · 10/03/2016 13:10

Captain where do you live that school starts so early!! What time does it finish??

dairymilkmonster · 10/03/2016 19:43

Ds1 up 7 at latest - by then dh heading out door, ds2 (baby) and i are dressed. persuade ds1 to be shoved into clothes and do teeth. Go down ,get breakfasts. Feed ds2 whilst eating myself and clearing. Lots of complaining about lack of lego time, fight over shoes/coat. leave 7.40 or 7.50 depending if dropping ds2 at childminder or not first. All a huge stressful rush.

CaptainTightpantsforPM · 11/03/2016 05:32

wips I live in the UAE. Standard finish time is 2.30 (3.30 for DH). Though if they are doing an extracurricular activity then they finish at 3.30 as well. Saying that DC1 is on the hockey squad and finishes at 5.30/6.00 on a squad night. DC2 does drama and when rehearsing does one night at 4.30 and when we get nearer the play we get more late nights and it cuts into weekends. DC3 sails, so 6.00/6.30 on a sailing night and weekends when he has regattas.

Artandco · 11/03/2016 05:42

7.45am kids woken
7.45-8am they teeth/ toilet/ dress
8-8.20am eat
8.20-30am shoes/ coats/ last min faffing
8.30am leave

No time for anything else

JoandMax · 11/03/2016 06:51

5.45am - alarm goes off and I get up and shower and dress
6am - wake DSs up and go downstairs
6-6.30am - drink tea, have breakfast, put make up on etc
6.30-6.45am - DSs brush teeth and get dressed, I do lunch boxes
6.45-7am - DSs are allowed TV/iPad once completely ready (including shoes!), I tidy away, stick washing machine on etc
7am - leave house to get to school for 7.20am, they start at 7.30am

I get bags packed and ready night before, uniforms downstairs - I hate being up so early so as much organisation in advance helps!!
