it's dd's last day at school today (Reception class) and I was astounded at the sheer volume of gifts brought in for teacher and LSA's 9 (of which we have 3 in dd's class). We made homemade biscuits but some gifts I saw were well over the value of £20-£30?!!!

Shocked!

Most people here tend to go for a group presents if there is a lot of TAs, don't think anyone spends over £5 each

I give big presents to dds key worker at nursery. Just because they are paid so little and they work so hard with the children.

It is just my way of saying thank you (and thank god there are good people out there prepared to work so conscientiously for what really is quite a low wage). I have often wondered whether to give cash or a Christmas bonus of vouchers or something. The poor girls are really very poor. Very few of them can afford a car to drive to work, they all seem to live at home with their parents.

Not sure whether teachers are that low paid, but will probably give the same.

I'm not well off at all, but I just feel so appreciative of their efforts. I am a bit of a soft touch really.

Judging by my own 'haul' yesterday I think most parents have spent between £3 and £5.

As a TA I am truly overwhelmed by their generosity and tbh I would be highly embarassed if I thought someone had spend over £10 on me after all I am only doing what I'm paid for.

I don't think TAs expect gifts although it does give you a nice warm feeling and the kids love giving them to you, but parents shouldn't feel pressured especially as some don't even know the TA.

As a parent I usually spend £5 on a present for Teach and TA at Christmas and end of year then when all my children finally leave a school I get a gift for the Head, Secretary, Music Teach and anyone else who we'll never see again.
