New Ashmole Primary School, Southgate

I was just wondering if anyone was considering the new Ashmole Primary school opening in Southgate (North London) in 2016 for their child. Any thoughts on the proposal, pros / cons?

3.9 miles apparently! I imagine it must be only to category 3 (Catholic) though otherwise Lost would have got a place ?

Wow!! We are at St Monica's already....in the last few years it's been less that 0.7 miles. 3.9!!! Wow!! It's a fantastic school we love it.

Hi just found out that we are 13 on the waiting list for Walker and apparently 0.44 miles. I thought it was less than that

Ag123 did you get your preferred school? Have you heard any more about the future of Bowes Southgate Green? My friend was offered a place there

I got Bowes which was entirely expected and I'm trying to think how lucky I am compared to some people who have got none of their choices. It is a good school, consistently outstanding according to ofsted and at the end of my road. Just not convinced it will suit my son as well as others would but, hey-ho, nothing I can do about that.

When I went on a tour of Bowes SG before Christmas they said they were about to have a meeting with the borough to try and find out more about their future. This February newsletter has a little information about it at the top:

Hi, Lost2010. I know someone who's further down the list than you that really wants it and I know someone that lives under 0.4 that's not going to take it

Thank you. I would prefer Walker mainly because it is the closest and the ease of drop off / pick up ( we can walk down). The rest will be much harder. Will see how it pans out.

Hi, We are Fox Lane, 55th on the list for Ashmole and didn't get Walker (18th on their list) got Bowes Southgate Green which I have heard positive things about but didn't actually go and see just put on the form as a back up plan as was (maybe naively) convinced I would get Ashmole. Am waiting for a phone call from the school as they have said they are going to arrange another tour, anyone else in same boat?

Hi, apologies if this is duplicate but posted earlier and seems to have disappeared. We got Bowes Southgate Green. We live on Fox Lane so had high hopes for Ashmole but 55th on their list so think that's a non starter! 18th on Walker's lost which also seems pretty far. Have heard good things about Bowes Southgate Green but not seen it which makes me anxious. Rang them yesterday though and they are planning on arranging a tour. Anyone else in same boat?

No I don't know anyone but I'm sure there must be people given the schools' locatiions. Are you hopeful for Ashmole Lost2010? I bet there will be lots of movement on the Asmole wait list..!

I doubt I could move to anything with a chance, but I have opted to stay on the waiting list. The next round of communication would be after 12th May, so let's see.

Hi there, so we got a letter in the post today with an offer for Ashmole! I did not see that coming. Really surprised and pleased. Will wait a couple of days to hear back from Enfield council before we make our decision.

That's great news Lost! Weren't you 38th? That must mean a lot of people declined the place?!

Yes indeed, we were 38 on the waiting list so it came as a pleasant surprise as I certainly had no hopes of movement of that scale.

Has anyone heard from Enfield council regarding Walker?

Hi Lost2010 (and anyone else), is your child going to Ashmole? We're currently struggling to decide between Walker and Ashmole. We know we're really lucky to have this choice but I'm agonising over it!

That's a tough one Frecklitis! Have you heard how Walker is getting on now with the new head? Hopefully it can only improve. Ashmole is a tempting option though! Good luck in your decision

Have you heard from Ashmole? You should have moved up if you haven't got a place?

For those sending their kiddies to Ashmole Primary in September, I have just set up a facebook group to help people to meet, chat etc. Hopefully over the summer we can arrange some picnics in the park and let the kids get to know one another as well. Its called Ashmole Primary School Parents Group (there is nothing much on it at the moment as just set up!) and I think you should just be able to request to join.

Hi all, apologies I didn't realise there had been response on this thread. We have had some movement so thought I would check in and see where everyone else was at. We got offered Walker on Saturday and are 6th on the list for Ashmole. Lost2010 you must have been offered both of them too at some point, have you stuck with Ashmole? We are still not certain what we are going to do as we were really impressed with Bowes Southgate Green but am going for another look round at Walker tomorrow. Does anyone have thoughts/opinions. Still think I would most like Ashmole but don't know how much more movement there will be there now.
