Rude and aggressive deputy head

I asked a question of my DS's class teacher, which she couldn't answer ... so I ended up getting a really aggressive rude phone call from the Deputy Head saying how I had upset her staff, and had been rude about another member of staff. I was not rude to anyone but I did ask and when the answer was incomplete I asked to be sent a copy of their policy- after all that is what policies are for.

DH wants to email the head to complain about her conduct which was awful. I feel really terrible because my children have to go to the school. I wasn't rude, I was direct because I required an answer-which the new teacher couldn't give.

Should I take this further? The Deputy wanted me to have a meeting with her and lots of people so they could deal with my questions... no thank you I am not a naughty school girl to be dealt with.

What was it about your tone or comments that upset the initial teacher so much do you think?

I'm surprised you don't want to find out the answer to your queries with a meeting to be honest.

Deputy heads don't have the time nor inclination to hassle parents for imaginary slights.

If only that were true.

Chances are the Deputy knows full well that they are not doing things right and have ofsted prowling around
being hauled up on it by a teacher from another school who just happens to be a parent was her final straw.

I'd say no to any meeting and drop an email saying that sight of the policy would be just fine and will take up the least amount of valuable staff time

I regularly have to remind schools that their policies are out of date no you may not see a 2015 CRB check thankyou
some take it well, some take it very badly

My daughter and we were also bullied by a girls high school head teacher. She was totally unreasonable, because she knows she's untouchable, as it's a private school.

Did you really not know that 'Literacy' is now called 'English'?

The school was moved to notice to improve last year

Last year? NTIs ended ages ago?

Most decent schools make their policies available on their web sites. Also, if the policy has been agreed at a Governing Body meeting, it forms part of the papers for the meeting and is therefore available to parents. Any subject policy should always be available. Many schools are very defensive if you touch a raw nerve! Obviously this was one.

IguanaTail · 30/11/2015 21:25

Schools must by law have certain policies on their websites and make it clear where others can be seen.

Not strictly true. maintained schools must publish certain information. For academies it depends on their funding agreement.

Try the DfE website- you can also find the funding agreements for most academies but can take a bit of finding. Very simplistically a 2012 or earlier funding agreement has much less stipulation that a September 2015 and a pre 2010 even less so. There are now model funding agreements with little if any changes allowed but that hasn't always been the case.

www.gov.uk/guidance/what-maintained-schools-must-publish-online

Every maintained school must publish specific information on its website to comply with The School Information (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2012.

If you are an academy or free school, you need to check your funding agreement to find out what you should publish on your website.

That's interesting. Thank you. Currently working at an LA school. I'm surprised there are different requirements for what is publicised: parents should be able to access it all.
