hi
i will really appreciate anyone's advice regarding my issue
i have recently moved to Leeds from outside UK on 30th Sep, have 2 kids 6 and 3 and have applied for admission of my 6 year old for year 2. All my nearby schools are full (except a faith school which i am not comfortable in opting for) so he has been kept on the waiting list. Council also provided me with the name of all schools in Leeds with available space in year 2 but majority of schools are more than 10 miles far. i dont drive so they are out of question
i have appealed for all three nearby schools but am not sure what to expect cos of infant class size rule. can anyone guide me how i can make my case strong
also this appeal is out of regular sessions appeal as children in year 2 had ended their 1st term. my son is out of school for so long and i am worried about it as well
thanks and have a nice day everyone

What is your definition of far Headingley? West Park?

Which side of the ring road?

32 yes we'll be inside the ring road and not quite as far as West Park.

Thanks tiggy, how much does it matter that DDs are twins? IIRC schools can exceed infant class size for a multiple birth, but if that is not so, then we need two places to come up. And in the same school, otherwise they may as well be on the moon.

Anyway the whole discussion is probably going to be moot for us, as during dinner DH has been making noises about just opting for an independent school. He does have a point, as we are both moving for work, and we can't have one of us putting off our new job (and pissing off new employer) for an indefinite wait for school places.

You wont have to wait for a school place. You may have to wait for a school place very nearby. The turnover is quite high in some schools- lots in that area have student parents and/or new arrivals.

The Jewish school mentioned above is not too far away. Admissions won't have the most up to date picture as it changes constantly and schools manage in year admissions themselves.

Not sure if the position is any better with independent schools.
