7 year olds told to bring in deodorant for after PE

Hi, is this a normal request please in other schools? My dd has come home and said that their teacher has requested that they all bring in deodorant for after PE as there's a horrible smell in class afterwards. They are all 7 and the birthdays are from May in that class so no one 8 until May through August.
Can children this young even use deodorant? I wouldn't even spray it in the same room as my DC. Is this really ok and the done thing?

ClearEyes - my DD uses dr.organic organic vitamin E deodorant from Holland & Barratt.

Both my DD started stinking of BO at 7/8 yo. We used French mineral deodorant pierre allun, which you wet and wipe. Now they use organic stuff that smells nice otherwise they weren't using it.

Seriously the smell in the changing rooms of the dance school after the primary school classes are enough to make you cry.

I don't remember kids smelling when I was boarding at primary school despite 3 people sharing 2 baths a week. I wonder why the do now?

I would refuse point blank if my 7 year old didn't need to use deodorant yet. But you could always send her with an empty roll on so it looks like she is using it, not singling out the children who do need it, but also avoiding unnecessary chemicals for your DD.

My grandchildren have been taking Deo to school since about the age 7/8. There was a need for it because we live in a hot country but it soon became obvious on holiday in a cooler climate that they just needed it full stop.

We buy this in bulk when in the Uk and share it out amongst family and friends at home.

Lynette, our lot shower after PE even at that young age and the deo is part and parcel of it but I do get your point about it needing to be applied beforehand. Maybe we're missing something and its for children who don't normally have a sweaty odour but would if they did PE.

isn't that what's missing though? in this country they don't shower after pe or even swimming.

Ds1 is 18 now and his school was rebuilt and they didn't include showers in the pe department. ds2 is 13 and plays rugby4/5 times a week and has several pe lessons and the showers have been broken as long as hes been here. That combined with nylon or polyester pe kits, does not make for a pleasant smell after a pe class.

dd is 9 and I do spray her on a morning, we use soft and gentle one that claims to have fewer chemicals, but the key is using anti perspirant before PE class or a shower afterwards.
