Who do I raise a lunchtime problem with?

Ds is pretty distraught today as when he said he'd had enough and asked to leave the midday assistant and made to stay at the table. He says he missed all of playtime because of this and he didn't eat any more of his lunch because he didn't like it.

I need to speak to someone at the school to try and ensure this doesn't happen again, is it best to go straight to the office in the morning or do I need to wait until after school to speak to the class teacher?

Class teacher in the morning, who hopefully will pass it on to the lunchtime assistant.

Ok thanks, I'll prepare myself to join in the scrum that surrounds the teacher each morning. Grin

How old is your DS? I guess he might be Reception class?
You will probably have to find out his school's 'routine' or arrangements for lunchtime before.
Is the lunchtime staggered at his school?
Was the midday assistant there at all times after she asked him to try and taste the food or she had to continue her duty elsewhere?
Did your DS asked another adult if he could leave the table?
Was he really sitting there looking bored or he carried on socialising with his peers and then realised that he had no time for play?
Are the school's doors open for children to go outside freely at anytime during lunchtime or they have to wait until the first group/form is led/supervised by a grownup?

Teachers might not do canteen duties. At my DS's school teachers will be in the classroom marking classwork or having their lunch breaks.
Admin/Office staff should be able to sort out your problems.

He's yr1 and has been on school dinners since he started in reception, this is the first time we've had a problem with lunch. He has been very specific about which midday assistant it was and what was said to him but I know I don't have the full story because he's too young and too upset to give all the details. But he was in tears about missing playtime and very clear that he doesn't like cabbage, so I need to speak to someone. I think I will try the office first (due to how difficult it is to speak to the teacher in the morning because of how busy they are).

Did you catch the teacher OP? What did have to say?

Johnny5isAlive · 12/11/2015 17:54

What did THEY have to say?

LookingUpAtTheStars · 12/11/2015 18:33

I spoke to the office staff as the teacher isn't present at lunchtime. They didn't have much to say other than it's a shame I'm moving him to packed lunches because numbers of hot dinners are dropping. I wrote all my concerns down for them though because I wasn't particularly happy with the office response.

Are the office staff there at lunchtime? Hmm I wouldn't be particularly happy with that response either. Hopefully having it in writing means it's likely to be followed up. Hope DS felt better today
