PatriciaHolm they have two school cloth sets forest school set and school uniform. we send her in outdoor uniform and with her coat waterproof trousers and boots when they enter their classes they took off the coat and hang them. in the time of trip when they group them to go out in the trip. she didn't have her coat with her (she hang it in class) she ask the teacher on the school gate to bring her jacket the teacher reply no you are not allowed. upon collection they change to school uniform and but all the cloth and boots and trousers together so when I open the bag I didn't notice any thing- wet clothes and mud with her boots and every thing but didn't cross my mind she went in trip without her rain coat. and yes she mention that she felt cold. any way am wasting my time actually by this discussion I have now a meeting with the governor and this is the first time I post a problem and I thing there is no use of it's better to act. than judgment without knowing.

I think I would be pretty cross in that situation then.

Their forest school outfit should include waterproofs, yes.

Is the forest school teacher qualified to run forest schools?

Are you in and English state school OP?

If so and the governor is doing their job properly they should tell you that this is not something they should be getting involved with at this stage.

You must deal with complaints at the appropriate level in the right order. Governors should only be involved when you have exhausted all the other avenues

My dd embarrasses me. She LOVES the rain Confused she will always have rain coats to hand but refuses to wear them!

One day I went to collect her and a staff member was getting wet as had lent DD her coat....( dd rain coat was in her bag!!)

Just example of caring and observant staff member..

You need to resolve the issue by speaking first to the class teacher, escalating to the headteacher if you're not happy with the outcome, and then as a last resort take it to the chair of governors, not any random individual governor. Complaining in the 'wrong' way will only hinder any attempt to find a resolution, and the LEA are less likely to be helpful if you haven't taken the correct steps.

Ok, now you've explained more fully, I still don't see this as being a big deal requiring a move of schools, however I do find it mildly unacceptable that your daughter wasn't allowed to return to the classroom to collect her coat given they were due to be outside for as much as 4 hours.

I think you MUST follow the correct complaints procedure, and start by talking to the teacher. Do not go straight to a governor, that's not what they're there for.

I think you were saying earlier that you have had problems with neglect at the school before. What did they do previously?

I'd like to point out that there could be a reasonable explanation? my DC once came home from school saying the teacher wouldn't let him have pudding. What actually happened is that the teacher warned him there would not be time for pudding if he took 45 mins to eat his main course. He ignored her and so didn't have time for pudding. As far as I was concerned that was a correct decision by the teacher and thereafter DS ate within a reasonable timeframe at school!

i cannot accept that teachers who are in loco parentis are not responsible for ensuring that all children they are in charge of on a trip are not adequately clothed for the weather. i am a retired teacher who took my classes on trips in all weathers and used my own extra mitts, hats, coats etc if students came without all necessary gear . In fact any school i was in had a giant amount of all items that had not been claimed and these were available for borrowing. You shd follow this up op for the sake of all the students in that school.

I understand why you're a bit annoyed and as I teacher I really can't understand how they let her go without a coat.
However moving schools and speaking to the governors seems a bit of an overreaction. What were the other incidents of 'neglect'?
