P1- 3 pages of homework not marked.

DD was sent home with a bought and printed off workbook last week. Her little diary only said page 1, but she did the whole thing in two seconds flat.

This week she brought the same workbook home, with the first page marked and H/W for Week Beginning 28th September on the second page, which I find quite passive aggressive.

I have already asked for extra homework and been told that there is no need for it in P1.

Not very pleased.

Why would you ask for extra homework for a child in P1?

DD is working within 20, not 5. The sounds homework sent home is also dire. Not one reading book yet.

Why don't you get some reading books from the library and buy a workbook from WHSmiths if you want extra work?

It sounds like the teacher is getting to know what the dc are capable of and making sure they are secure with the basic stuff first. I think allowing her to do the whole book in one sitting was ill advised - a quiet word with the teacher asking if that would be OK would have gone down better...
From what I hear the new curriculum is resulting in teachers having to teach specific things in a specific order - might be part of that? If your dd is great at maths maybe focus at home on other areas she is less confident?

The teacher can't mark the whole book at once. The teacher has planned homework and marking schedule which s/he needs to stick to so as to have time for planning other lessons and assessments (most of which will be in school). If you are concerned that your child needs more work then why don't you read with them? You can also do other stuff too like maths and science but honestly school is enough at this stage

I think you're being ridiculous. The teacher marked the work she'd set. That is not passive aggressive.

If your daughter has not been given reading books yet, why don't you go to the library?

What do you mean you daughter is working within 20 not 5?

But, pupils in Scotland have been in school for 7 weeks now (P1 is Reception) so the teacher should have a good handle on a child by now.

glitterballsong · 03/10/2015 10:18

Of course we go to the library, but it would be nice for the school to encourage children working ahead!

They have just moved onto number 7, but the homework was all about counting 4, 3, 5 etc. DD is easily able to add to 20.

If she's ahead in number etc, then what does she need to work on in other areas? Getting herself dressed? Riding a bike without stabilisers? Swimming? Social skills? Music? You could spend time saved on number homework working on stuff she does need.
