School dinners - tiny portion sizes

Can anyone advise what to do? My son and daughter attend different primary schools. Both say that they are hungry at dinner time after their dinners and that they only get a toddler size portion.

They have good breakfasts. A huge bowl of porridge or Weetabix (4 biscuits each) followed by yoghurt with lots of nuts and then a piece of fruit. Dinner is fairly late-ish but they get a snack when they get in from school.

Both are of athletic build.

I have never asked if they have enough, they both independently moan about it. I have spoken to the office of my daughter's school who have confirmed she finishes everything on her plate. I know my ds does as he always has.

I could send them in with an additional packed lunch but that kids of defeats the objective of school dinners (1 I pay for, 1 I don't).

Both offices have said there is bread, but this appears to be rationed also according to my children (as other kids who get it then don't eat their dinner).

I have no idea what to do next.

That is one HUGE breakfast for a child. Maybe try more protein at breakfast as it will keep them fuller for longer. A piece of fruit for breaktime such as a banana might help. Or try a packed lunch? Even if only every other day. See if they are hungry on packed lunch days?

your comment was a bit off, My grandson at 11 is 5'9" and of an athletic build, not an ounce of fat on him, he eats a mans meal because well he is the size of a man. He eats that many wheetabix followed bay all the fruit etc. He never eats between meals. We home educate but a neighbour kids are always complaining there is not enough food at lunch time and they too are not overweight, one is 14 and at high school.
different children have different appitites.

I personally think the portion sizes are minuscule at our school, but they are the official recommended portions.... Having said that, so many of the children waste their food, especially the infants. The portions are small, and then they eat next to nothing of it, despite staff cajoling.

That's about three breakfasts! mine would have one or two weetabix plus fruit. Is it possible that they are overweight and you're not seeing it?

This thread is over 2 years old and the OP hasn't posted since 2015. I have no idea how people resurrect these threads.

Me neither - and no one ever comes back to explain!
