Does anyone know any good primary schools in EC1 or N1 area?
My dd is only 8 months old but as I don't know the English education system I would like to find out when I have to enrol etc.
Not sure if state schools in my area are ok, but don't want the little one to have a long journey to her first school. We live in EC1 close to Angel. Am grateful for any advice (also on kindergarten).

We are in N1. Popular primaries with middle-class parents include Tyndale, Canonbury and Hanover. In EC1 Prior Weston has a good reputation. If you're near the Angel, then Hanover is probably the best bet. I know people with children there who are very happy with it, ditto Prior Weston. If you are Catholic, then SS Peter & Paul or St John the Evangelist are popular options.

You don't need to enrol until nearer the time -- generally around the February of the year your child is due to start, but it depends when her birthday falls. The church schools may have slightly earlier deadlines. You can download Islington Council's primary admissions brochure here , which will tell you each school's admissions policy, and what the cut-off distance for each school's admissions area was last year. From that you should be able to get a rough idea of whether you'd be offered a place, although it does vary from year to year depending on the number of siblings and the number of applicants.
