My DD cuurently goes to state primary and year 2. We are planning to put her in independent from year 3. St. Helen's school is our top preference but just in case we do not get in St. Helens we have also registered for Northwood college school.

We are also thinking to apply for quinton hall school and Redford school (just in case) but we have absolutely no knowledge about these 2 schools. Please can someone advise whether quinton hall and rediford are in same league as St. Helens? Is it worth applying to any of these two? If I need to choose one school out of quinton hall and rediford which one should I pick for my DD?

Finally, what's the advise on St. Helens assessment preparing for year 3 entry?

Your early response and suggestion would be highly appreciated.

Regards

I'm just up with my DS, saw someone had just posted for urgent advice and thought "I'll read that, urgent advice in the middle of the night is never a good thing and at least I can reply to their thread".

This isn't urgent! But, while I'm here...

You will be paying shes loads of money and, as none of us have met your daughter, we can't tell you which school is best. You need to go and look round and get a feel fir which will suit her personality etc. just because it's the best on paper does not mean it's the best for her.

Also remember that you will probably have to pay a reg fee at whichever school you apply to so applying to 4 or 5 has a coat implication.

Yeah an "urgent advice needed" thread started after midnight is usually about something actually, y'know, urgent. Perhaps report your post and ask for a title change to something like "advice needed - Quinton Hall and Redford schools" which might mean they get spotted by someone who knows anything?

I know nothing about these schools or your area so had a quick Google - what else am I going to do at 4:30am - I think you mean Quainton Hall. The only Redford School Google can find is a speech & drama extracurricular activity organisation in Bedford.

Hi Mums,

Apologies, I am newbie on the forum and have recently created the ID so I wasn't sure how long it will take for people to notice my post. I was concerned because I have been told Reddiford school's registration deadline is approaching. Indeed the post was not that urgent that it require someone to respond at 2AM or 4AM..once again my sincere apologies..

Kind regards

Rachel you can report your message and ask for HQ to change the title. It's also generally better to give an idea of what is in the message so something like Fish says will get a better response. Thing is I might skip a thread titled "advice needed" but one that mentioned school X that I had personal experience I'd almost always go on and comment.

Welcome anyway!

The best thing you can do is have a look round all schools and unpick what they say.
So if they say "we have huge success in our football team" does that mean that they have half the children who train extensively elsewhere play for the team and no one else will get a look in, and they ignore the netball and never bother with it; or does it mean that they have had a few really good years in a team that rotates to make sure everyone plays and the netball team does just as much but hasn't quite had as many triumphs.

Then speak to current and past parents. Ask for positive and negatives and assess them to your dc. ie if they say they have a fantastic support group for dyslexia, that's not going to be relevant if your dc doesn't struggle that way.

And when you go round the schools look at the faces of the children. Are they lively, excited about what they're doing?

And when you have all the information put it together and decide what is important to you and will suit your dc.

But realise that a year down the line it's very likely you'll be saying "I'm so glad I picked XX, it is the best school for my dc" whichever you chose. Wink

Is she happy where she is? If so why move her.

this thread is a few years old but may be useful.

Q.hall has only started to take on girls a few years ago, im sure you know but just to put that in your radar nonetheless
It may mean their connections at exit will historical (obviously) be for boys secondary schools.
Have you considered St Hilda's?
