Help - Moving during primary applications!

Didn't realise how much of an issue this could be but we are going to be moving house TWICE during the admissions for primary school. We have sold our house but are buying a new build which will not be ready until January so have to move into rented for four months during which time we will be applying for primary school for DD1. I've read on another thread that a change of address after admissions close could put us to the bottom of the list... Is this correct? Is there any way we can avoid this happening? HELP! Please!

The deadline is sometime in January isn't it?
Any chance you can be in by the deadline?

It depends . Some LA s will allow a window to update the address after the mid January deadline but not all. You need to whether yours would and , if so, the final date to do so. Will the rental be local too?

Why are you not tying in your sale and completion.is it in the same area? Sounds to me like you could be doing to get the school.you want.
My neighbours did this conveniently rented right next to the outstanding school which they never would have got into otherwise. I reported and nothing happened! I believe the reason is because they were moving from.some distance away.

Thanks for the advice all!
Teen - Our estate agent has said the builders are normally very good at completing on time so we're keeping our fingers crossed we'll be in before the closing date. I've also read something that you can get a solicitors letter confirming you are definitely purchasing your house and they can take this into account... Think I might have to give the LA a call to find out more.
LIZS - The rental is in the village next to where we're buying so very close. Again, think I'll have to give the LA a call.
Imperial - We accepted the offer on our house in June and our buyers were hoping to be in for September so we can't make them wait any longer or we risk losing the sale. All the houses are in the same area although the rented one is closest to the school we want. Slightly concerned that the applications people would think the same as you although it's a coincidence that it's closer as we would have taken anywhere local that was available for a short let, it's just this is the only one!

If the rented one is closest to the school you want, then I would just be upfront with the LA in January if you won't be in by the deadline, and ask them which address they would prefer you to use. If you are happy to use the new build address then you're in the 'clear' if you ask them to choose which one to use.

I assume you want to apply from the new build as that will be your permanent address?

Call your council for advice but I think if you can show that you've exchanged contracts, then they will accept your application from that address. If not then you will have to apply from your rented address and then inform admissions of your new address after the closing date.

Have you looked to see under which criteria the last child was admitted to your preferred schools this year and how big the catchment area is?
