IEP / pathway plan reviews (SEN)

Posting here for teacher / senco opinions amongst other opinions

Should parents be involved with either the "here's how dc did against targets" or "let's set new targets" as I haven't seen any results in the past 2 years - yet I'm asked each term to sign off the new targets.....

Also a target from spring is on there. Is was dusted ( as in provision was withdrawn before end of spring term) yet two terms later..... It's still there

How do you review a IEP TWICE not notice it's finished and keep it on? What crosses the mind when staff fill out the progress made when it wasn't implemented in that term? Is there any way I'm getting the wrong end of the stick here?

We've just done my ds iep today - we had a meeting to discuss the new targets and if I had any input. I was generally happy so signed them off but, as he didn't have a fine motor target this time, I put a comment on the form so it was clear this was still a 'live' issue. If we had also discussed how he had done in his last targets I would have said that that was how ieps should be decided.

Other terms it has just appeared in his folder Hmm and on those occasions I either asked for a meeting, phoned them to discuss it, or wrote comments all over the form.... Perhaps they have learnt something Grin.

Im a social leper at my sons school. To be held at arms length with long tongs. Despite lots of promises I'm not involved, I can't get involved once things are over. I have lots of questions so stated I can't sign it off.

I thought the new code of practise was absolutely clear that parents and kids should be fully involved in setting targets and reviewing outcomes.

So I'm not expecting too much then? Ds is one of only a handful of statemented (as in a proper statement of SEN) kids in his school. I'm not signing them any more, it's just a box ticking exercise.

Do ofsted ever ask to see these kind of things in inspections? My school is going for a sen award. In what respect my mind boggles?

If he's got a statement I absolutely would be expecting proper parental involvement.
