I am looking into putting my DD to do the LAMDA exams. I do not know much about it but have the feeling they will help to improve her confidence, speech and vocabulary. She doesn't really like drama but I believe there are some poetry/verse exams. Anyone with more experience who can give me more information; where could she study, are they any good, benefits, how many exams does she need to do, etc. We are in London South East. Thank you

Increasingly the Saturday drama/musical theatre schools are doing them Stagecoach and Perform but perhaps locally run ones or one to one might be better for her. LAMDA should be able to steer you towards someone who offers them. dd does them through school , they are diverse from acting solo or groups, to verse and prose , devised drama and public speaking. How old is your dd? In the exam, part is based on performance and part on explanation of character, setting, context, method etc

My DD (Y2) has done 2 Lamda exams (pre-grade 1 ones). She did them via our local Stagecoach franchise. She loves doing it. She has 6 30 min one to one sessions with a teacher in the run up and she likes to have the one on one attention. The exams themselves involve learning a short poem and talking about something you bring in. In the first one it was a toy and in the second one it was a photo. They take all of about 10 mins.

There has definitely been an improvement in her confidence, in how she presents herself and in how willing she is to participate in group discussions etc. but I'm not sure that that isn't down to stagecoach as a whole rather than the LAMDA exams explicitly.

What is has done is lowered her fear of tests. Which I think will stand her in good stead later.

I've heard positive things from friends whose children have done LAMDA - they find it fun and the children ooze confidence so I'd say give it a try OP.

Thank you very much; my dd is 9; I would definitely give it a try; I would look at Stage Coach and Perform
