Any recommendations from teachers or parents gratefully received! DS is in yr3 and his maths is noticeably weaker than English. He loves using the iPad and I've been looking at some apps but there are so many, so if anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear them. Thanks in advance.

I think Mathsisfun is great for young children. It lays out the work in years. Reports back to the parents how the learner is doing what areas need more practice etc. It isn't free but you can have free minutes every day.

UTube has great maths lessons which are free.
Khanacademy. Com is free. I love it but it might be a bit advanced for year 3.
However it would help you with your Maths, If you could understand and solve the problems, it would help him.

He needs to know his tables, backwards, forwards all ways. There are table apps, songs etc.

I'd definitely recommend Komodo maths which helped my two get to grips with early primary maths, tables etc. It works on ipads and computers, has nice graphics and is designed for family use. It isn't free - you buy a monthly or annual subscription from their site.

Doodlemaths is working well here - based on the new curriculum, which is an advantage, and apparently teaches in the same way as school (it's designed by teachers).

We're having a technical problem with it at the moment but dd1 has been happily using it all summer and her confidence and speed has definitely improved.

Also try this site: Apps 4 Primary Schools as you can search by topic and key stage and they are UK based

I like sumo maths - can play two player as well - mental application of the 4 calculations - not free but not expensive
