Reception/P1 toilet policy

DD has just started school and it is going well, but the teacher caught me today to ask if DD needs the toilet often at home.

Confused

Apparently she thinks she is asking out too often. I'm not really sure how to address this with DD- if she needs, she needs....

I'm obviously going to speak to her about not interrupting lessons and trying to wait. Is there anything else I could do?

I would normally mention it to parents if a child is going to the toilet multiple times through the day as it can be a sign of an infection or illness so can need checking out.

Is she saying she's being disruptive, or is she just passing on a concern that she might be ill or nervous etc?

GP then? I would feel a bit off when I haven't really noticed anything about her health. I think it is a bit of nerves and maybe to do with the classroom noise.

Have you talked to your DD and asked her if/why she's asking to go to the toilet a lot?

mrz · 11/09/2015 18:53

If you haven't noticed then it's probably not an infection ... I would talk to her and maybe keep a check

My DS was like this in reception. I was a bit worried at the time, he went through a phase where if we went somewhere he needed to know where the toilet was or he'd get stressed.
Looking back I think it was just anxiety about the situation as a whole and he grew out of it. He's now fine.

No. The teacher only mentioned it to me today at pickup and she's absolutely exhausted. I will get a lot more out of her tomorrow.

That's good to know, eatingworms, I do think it is something like that.
