I can't get any meaning out of it at all!

All ages are calculated as at 1st September. Children born after the 15th September are put into the following year, so they go through as the oldest in their year, rather than the youngest.

It only makes sense if it's August 15th not September 15th.

Odd. So ages aren't calculated at 1st September at all, they're calculated at 15th September or possibly 15th August? Is it in the UK?

This is an independent school and yes agree with you domessycated it only makes sense if it is the 15th August not the 15th September.

I presume it means if your child is born between 1st - 14th September you may put them into the school year above the year group they would normally be in. But if they are born on the 15th September or later, you must put them in their chronological year.

I'm guessing private school? And in the admissions criteria to stop parents constantly asking?

Thanks for your answers!

Yes, independent in the UK.

Redsky DS is DOB of 7/9 - but if he was put in the school year above the one he would usually be in, he would be the youngest instead of the oldest wouldn't he?

I'm baffled Confused

The admissions criteria only mentions children born after 15/9 though - who would be the oldest in their year if in their "normal" year (rather than being the youngest as they would be if in the higher year).

I would presume that with a 7/9 DOB, you may choose to have DS either in the higher year (so he would be youngest) or his"normal" year (so he would be oldest). Guess you need to ask the school!
