Looking for some opinions

School mum friend called me to say she was going into school to speak to class teacher as her dd told her Pupil X was calling her names etc

She also said dd told her Pupil X also called my dd names and made a particular mean comment about friendship groups also.

I spoke with dd about it and although she confirmed it was true she wasn't bothered by it and was very blasé. She rolled her eyes, said oh its Pupil X, he's always mean,no one listens to him, his opinion doesn't matter etc

I spoke with her again today, we talked about how she doesn't have to accept getting called names by anyone and that Pupil X has no right to behave that way etc and she accepts this but insists he is irrelevant to her and therefore doesn't need to report it to the teacher or need me to contact the school.

On one hand I admire her attitude but in the other I don't want her to accept name calling, comments etc

Should I contact the school regardlessly? Should I leave it with her to judge its severity / importance?

It sounds like your young daughter has a wise head on her shoulders and my reaction would be to leave it with her to deal with unless it got significantly worse.
For you I think it is reinforcing with your daughter that you trust her and that you will always be there for her if she needs help

Thanks admission

Torn between respecting her attitude and decision and wanting to protect her from mean boys!

Maybe a quick note to the teacher saying what you've said here? Clearly some other children are upset by it, and while it's great your DD is unbothered, the teacher will be more able to deal with it the more info he/she has. In the interests of helping the boy with his social skills as much as helping your DD.

Thanks Catkind

Going to speak to school friend mum and see how her meeting with school went I think?

Agree with Catkind.

Your daughter's attitude sounds pleasingly positive and confident.

Sensible child.

I would mention it, in passing, if you are speaking with the teacher, but I think you should trust your daughter on this one. Just make sure she knows to tell you if she is upset.

I wonder if your friend is trying to get you to back her up with her complaint.
