I am looking for a school for my daughter that offer Spanish as a second language. I live in south west london and i dont mind moving, but I cant find any offers either public or state school. She will start next year, in Sep 2016. And has been attending bilingual nursery and lives in a bilingual family. I have searched in the internet with not much luck. Can anyone help?

If you speak Spanish at home, then the sort of level they will teach at primary will be of little use to her as she'll be way above that. I wouldn't disrupt yourself by moving but just get her a private Spanish lesson once a week if needed.

Brighton is the only place I think will offer the level of Spanish you'll need.

If your going for a normal primary, that teaches a language from reception, I suggest you go for one which DOESN'T use Spanish. The level after 2 years of my sons French is so low, she will be bored if it is Spanish. I'm not saying its a bad thing. But it is as much about understanding other languages and cultures exist rather than vocab learning. We are a bilingual house.

Hi Mamimummy, We don't live in London, so I don't know of any schools that offers Spanish as a second language. As other posters have said, I don't think any school will offer a level of Spanish that is right for your daughter, and I think that includes private and state primary schools.
You are saying that you are a bi-lingual family.. so are you or your partner Spanish nationals? If you are, what I would do, is keeping speaking to her in Spanish, and watching movies or Spanish TV, and when she is 7 years old (or she is in Y3 ) she can start Spanish lessons with A.L.C.E ( Asociacion lengua y cultura española) www.educacion.gob.es/exterior/centros/alcereinounido/es/home/index.shtml
Or you could have a look into the Spanish School in Portobello - Instituto Manuel de Canada, but there, Spanish is taught as main language and they follow the Spanish curriculum, which it might not be what you would like.
Good luck

This is the Spanish school in Brighton.

As an alternative, would you consider one of the international schools? Not cheap but friends are very happy with the American School (I'm pretty sure that they teach Spanish from early on).

By the way, if you do want ASL (or Southbank / Dwight London) you need to apply now now now.

Thanks so much for the information. The ALCE is for Spanish citizens, which I am not, nor is my child. We are Southamerican! I will contact them, but it doesnt look good.
The Instituto Maneul Canadas might work, so I need to find out fees.
Hopefully....

Hi Mamimummy, I just read your post and wanted to ask how it went with your finding of schools. We are going to move to London in a few months and I am looking for schools for my boy (same situation as you, I´m from Central America and my husband is British). Did you find a good one? how did it go for your child? Many thanks in advance.

I read about this school before: Instituto Español Vicente Cañada Blanch is a Spanish international school in Kensington, London, England, using a Spanish curriculum for students ages 5 through 19.

Don't know much about it, but it came up when I was looking up bilingual schools. My DD goes to French bilingual, but I was just looking at spanish for a friend.

missl1 · 06/06/2017 21:37

as far as i know there is no state primary school in london offering tuition in spanish. there is one in brighton however as people say. not that long ago there was a movement to get a spanish speaking state primary open in lambeth - lots of people expressed their support - but it never got beyond the paperwork.

Mamabear12 · 07/06/2017 19:52

There are several french bilingual schools and I'm surprised no more then the one Spanish school I mentioned. I know loads of people who would be interested for Spanish bilingual school particularly if it were state school! There were talks of one being set up in Fulham, but nothing more then talks.

Try the Europa School in Oxfordshire - I think they're offering an English/Spanish bilingual stream from Reception this year.

Mamabear12 · 12/06/2017 11:03

Like I said, there is a spanish school in notting hill. If you are looking for one in london that is it. It is 300 a year for spanish people and 3k a year for the rest.

A new Free school is due to open in Harrow next year with Spanish as its main language.

Friends of ours send their children to the one in Brighton and are really happy with it. It has gone from being in special measures to good in a few years.

Reay Primary School in Lambeth offers spanish throughout

krnewhaven · 21/02/2020 23:22

Hi @Mamimummy Can you please update me on your search for a bilingual Spanish school? We are in a similar situation. Gracias!
