How long do you allow your children for screen time during school days, weekends, holidays? Do you allow them to play games? Do you use any parental controls?

Just looking for guidance

Dcs 10 and 8. School days, about an hour and half or so after school.

Honestly? School holidays they self regulate. We do activity days, trips outs etc, but we have duvet days, family trips to the cinema, rainy afternoon DVD days, they watch tv on iplayer if they want a certain programme and they both love YouTube.

My ds has gone into overdrive with his Lego building fuelled by YouTube. My dd likes indie music videos and the Eurovision Song Contest!

They builds worlds on Minecraft with each other. They don't play any other computer games.

It works for us. Both dcs doing exceptionally well at school, are active, no friendships issues and have a lot of downtime.

Makes for a happy family in our houseSmile

Don't have any rules as dd is mostly feral. Taking out anything educational she chooses to do it's rare she has pure entertainment screen time. More likely scenario is the rare occasions she does play inside she'll have entertainment tv as background. On average I'd say it works out at 30 mins a day, but that really is an overall average. She self regulates, but if she doubled that I wouldn't mind.
Exception is playing dance or sport games on the wii, which can be several hours 3 nights a week in winter when her feral activities are closed to her, but I don't mind that.

Grin at feral - good description here too most of the time. So far this morning DD has played her clarinet, done music theory, sewed a few items for something on her/my old hand turn sewing machine, stamped a few things with colourful stamps and written a letter to her friend.

The hideous rain is keeping us inside. I am working. Her watching something would make less of a mess that is for sure!

Grin lavender, same here if she's in. The fact it's only raining lightly here, rather than real rain, means right now dd and 2 others have been playing on a field since 9am, apparently practicing football skills that involve launching yourself head long when she ran in for the loo. Anytime soon she'll rush in, shower, eat if it doesn't require wasting valuble playing time (toastie on the go) and dash back out to meet other friends for swimming.

Ds3 is 9 (his brothers are 19 & 17 so do their own thing). He has a TV which he only uses for his x-box and an iPad mini. We don't really have any limits but his time is limited by his other activities. In term time he does swimming, music lessons and music practice after school and by the time he fits in homework - he gets a fair bit - and food he doesn't have much time for anything else. He doesn't watch much TV anyway, an occasional episode of ice truckers, moonshiners or nothing to declare. He tends to play his x-box only when he has friends round and most of his iPad use is playing minecraft or watching minecraft videos on YouTube.

Term time no screens during the week apart from an hour or so TV of DSs choice. He does watch sport with DH though so not too much American crap. Weekends and holidays it depends where he is. At school holiday camp they are only allowed screen time at start and end when children are arriving and being picked up. At Grandmas he tends to be outside if the weather is good playing with cousins (Grandma lives on a farm so think child heaven). Interestingly cousin would play on screens all day but DS drags him outside to play.
We have an agreement this holiday that he has to do at least 30mins a day playing maths games or verbal reasoning on his IPad since he will be doing entrance exams next year and needs to speed up with maths. So far there has been no complaints about this.
