Very small schools

We're thinking of moving the DC from a London primary to a very small village school. There are just two smallish classes.

The eldest will go into year 5 and the youngest into year 1. The school seems like it would suit DS2 he's very quiet and doesn't like busy environments. But DS1 is used to it and makes friends easily.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of very small

I was suggesting that larger schools have orchestras and play competitive sports. It was an illustration of the differences. Yes, they definitely do have these in primary school and around here there are sport leagues for the schools to play in. Children also have instrument lessons, go to Music centres for orchestras and compete via local sports clubs as well as school teams. I have found school teams to be very competitive and the sporty children are very keen to participate (and do well). Children do love to do these things at school (mine did) and some parents might struggle to get them to sports clubs/coaching and music centres that might be many miles away from school and take place in the evening. It is just something to think about if your child might be interested in sport or music because there will not be sports teams, music groups and orchestras in small primary schools becaue there are simply not enough children.

Competitive sports teams, music groups and quality drama surely only matter if your child is talented at these things and then you could address them through extra curricula activities. Most children are just so so and for them there may be more opportunities to do these in a smaller school. My dd attends a very large primary so only the best get to represent the school. My dd loves drama but it is the same few picked every time (not her and I'm not convinced it is talent based either). She would do more in a smaller school as most/all children might get a part.

why on earth would you think very small schools don't do quality music , sport and drama?
