Stating you are a teacher openly....would it be a problem?

Question on end of year presents for teachers.

As a cohort, the class has pooled in and got the teachers vouchers. However DS' teachers have been wonderful with him and I wanted to get them a little remembrance (without breaking the bank since we've already contributed to the group gift). So I thought of getting luggage tags with their names and a little tag saying my favourite teacher/ the best teacher ever.

They are all fond of travelling.

Hubby however is of the view that they wouldn't want their profession on the luggage tag.

So....good idea/ bad idea?

Agree with UniS - I would obviously thank you sincerely for the thought but wouldn't stick them on my holiday luggage.

Also, surely the point of having the collection (which - if you read recent threads on here, causes a lot of awkwardness for a lot of people), is that people then don't get extra individual presents as well. .
Surely it has to be one or the other or neither

You've joined in the collection so don't do another present. Write them a letter/card instead telling them how how feel and thanking them. I bet they'll really appreciate it, I know I do.

If there is a group gift you really shouldn't then buy a separate one or it completely defeats the object of pooling together- a card/ note yes but another gift no. And I doubt they would use the luggage tag to be honest- lovely thought though

A big yes to a letter. I have had one or two genuinely lovely ones in my time and they made it all worth it.

Will write them a letter because really, they have been amazing. A child who couldn't hold a pencil six months ago is spelling and writing full sentences and its all their work and encouragement.

Write a letter. Every time I read on here, teachers say they want a letter/card far more than any 'thing'.

If you can use concrete examples she/he can use in appraisals, so much the better.

IME, anything that refers to "best teacher" etc will stay in school and never be used at home or outside work.

I really appreciate anything people very generously give me, but I AM paid to go to work. I absolutely love those letters though and treasure them for ever. If I've made a difference, that's good enough for me. I have notes from 20 odd years ago.

I don't feel bad about accepting wine/gifts because like most teachers I probably spend a good 100/200 of my own money throughout the year - never added it up but that's probably very much on the low side. I would feel bad about an expensive gift though.

libraries he's just 3 right now so no appraisals but that's a super tip as the years progress :)

teacher appraisals. Also a handy tip if wanting to thank anyone in the public sector. My mw was thrilled with the letter as she said it was something she could use as evidence of patient centred care (I'd referred to specific things she had done out of the norm)

I still keep and treasure letters/cards from appreciative parents years later.

I've still got them long after gifts are done.

Personally I'd give a card as you've already contributed to the class gift
