Does anyone child attend breakfast club before school?

Hello all,

I have been offered a new job and it would mean going from part time to full time but with one day at home. Still debating whether to accept it.

The only way I could possibly do this would be if DS - aged 4, was to go to breakfast club beforehand. I do feel a bit guilty about this but realise that many people send their children to breakfast club.This is why I am on here to ask, if your child goes to breakfast club - do they enjoy it? How does it affect them? Is it too long a day?

This may influence my decision on taking the job!

Both my dcs went to a breakfast club from Reception. Initially it was an external club, but then moved to school which was much much better.

My hours have since changed, but they still go at least twice a week, because they enjoy it so much.

I don't think it makes them more tired, but they do get to socialise with the older ywar groups which really helped them settle and build confidence. Our Reception teacher thought it was very good for ds2 for that reason.

My three DC go three times a week, the youngest is in reception. It works really well for us.

Dd is in y1 and loves going, she's disappointed when I take her to school. They offer breakfast there, a range of healthy and unhealthy options then they can either play or there is a telly in the corner where they can relax

My 5yo only attends occasionally as needed, but if I got a full time job then I would send her without hesitation. It's a fairly relaxed atmosphere and she might just as well be there as at home. In fact she is more likely to be doing something useful there because they have games and books. At home she would be nagging to play on my phone or to watch TV.

My DS (4) is at breakfast club at his old day nursery 3 days per week. He has breakfast with DD (who is 2) and then gets taken to school. He's not a huge fan of the early start (drop them off at 7:30) but the staff say he has a fab time, plays with the different toys and "helps" with breakfast. Apparently he never shuts up all the way to school He also goes to after school club so it is a long day but it is the same length as DD who is just at nursery.

I have put his name down for the school based one, but the waiting list is long so hopefully it'll be cleared by the time I return from Mat leave. He is excited because some of his friends go to this. I'm excited because it's free!

DD used to go to breakfast club at her infants' school. The breakfast club childrne were always taken into the classroom before the bell, which she used to like :)

My younger 2 went once a week while I was at college this year - yr1 and 3. The tantrums I've faced since college finished and they've stopped going would suggest it was MUCH better than having breakfast at home with me!

My ds1 has been at before-school club since he started school, so the last 4 years. They don't actually do breakfast. As others have said it means he gets to make friends in other year groups. Also if he is having a bad morning it is much easier to persuade him to go to club where there are 2 adults and 10 kids than a playground teeming with kids and barely an adult in sight.Ds2 has been going for the past year and would have happily gone earlier, but hadn't started school yet!

My DDs go to breakfast club and they really like it. I also means those mornings are less frantic at home as there are fewer things to nag them about.

Mine went from nursery age -nursery and breakfast club both at school

Caused no problems at that age, they would sit at the table and breakfast would be social, then they would play for a while

They'd outgrown it by yr 5 so we had quite a lot of moaning but they loved it when they were little

My two have gone either 4 or 5 mornings a week since reception (they're now finishing Y2 and Y4). They always run in and enjoy both the breakfast and playing with the other kids from lots of different years afterwards. I find it easier than dropping them off at school as if we're running 10 mins late, it doesn't matter!

Mine love breakfast club! They have attended along with after school club since they started in reception. DS1 eats a second breakfast. DS2 Eats his first breakfast as he doesn't like eating first thing in the morning. Think most children at our school seem to attend breakfast club. Went to a meeting at school the other day and there were hardly any parents on the yard dropping off children at 9am.

My 2 go to breakfast club 3 times a week. DS1 (Yr4) loves it, DS2 (Yr1) not so keen (he enjoys it but isn't as enthusiastic as his brother) but he has no choice as I have to go to work!

They also go to after school club 3 times a week so can be there from 8 till 5.30 but as they were at nursery for similar times since they were babies, they seem OK with it.

DD2 has breakfast at preschool. By sending DD1 to breakfast club I get to start my working day earlier meaning I can finish earlier
Also, it massively cuts down the potential for arguments in the morning. Up, wash, dressed and out the door. Better than trying to get two newly-woken kids to eat breakfast

Yes DS went a few mornings per week so that I was able to start work at 8.45 a.m. he was in year 2.

This was 10 years ago and I think it was quite a new thing. It was held on school premises but the staff and food were paid for by the breakfast club group. I.e. it was run by a group of parents independently of school.

Mine goes twice a week and loves it. In September she'll need to go 4-5 times a week and is very excited about it.

The breakfast club can be a good experience.But you need to check what the breakfast club offers for breakfast. My DS1 went to a few times in primary school, the breakfast was always cold milk with cereal. So I had to let DS1 have breakfast at home and then go to the club. So he just play there.

Cold milk and cereal is the usual for us at home too. Or toast. They won't be able to do a lot more than that at breakfast club.

Nothing wrong with cold milk and cereal . At DD's it's a choice of 2 or 3 cereals and they are also offered pancakes.

My DS goes once a week and is fine, and he goes to after school club that day too. It is a long day but he is fine with it. He has toast and honey there for breakfast then veg sticks / cookie at the after school one.

What is wrong with cold milk and cereal? That is what my DC have at home for breakfast so I am certainly not going to object to them having it at school

They also often get extras such as pancakes, croissants, crumpets and even cheese on toast last week.
