What year will DS start?

He is only 10 months but just got myself confused about when he will go.

He was born second week of September. So will he start the January after he turns 4? Or after the first half term?
Or will he have to wait until the following September after he is 4? Making him almost 5 before he starts?

Yes he'll be very nearly 5 when he starts in September 2019.

If you are England or Wales (not sure about Scotland ) he will start the following September, so when he is nearly 5.

Dd is 2/9 and she starts this September, 5 days after her 5th birthday.

He starts the september of the school year he turns 5 (2019), so he will be 4.11+. In the autumn of 2018 you should start looking at primary schools and have his application in by the deadline in mid Jan 2019.

Am a single mum and qualify for the FEE at 2 years which I've already been advised (by my Dd's nursery) that he can go from the term after he turns 2, so then he will have almost 3 years of nursery where dd has 2?

That's right. There has to be a cut off date, it's simply not possible to assess how school-ready each individual child is.

The extra time in nursery will give him an excellent base from which to enter school - hopefully!

The cutoff in England is 31st August so a child born on that date 2015 will start at the same time as your son, even though they will be almost a whole year younger. If they were born on 1st September they would start the following year and be the oldest child.

I have friends who were born on 28/8 and 6/9 respectively - one was in my year at school, one the year below, even though there's only 9 days between them.

Certainly has cleared up the confusion!

I'm gonna look on the bright side that I get an extra year with my little guy before losing him to the school system!

NI is different again! Our cut off date is 1st July. So a child born on 2nd July would be the oldest in the year.
