Missing school induction morning

School induction session for DS was this morning but he's been unwell with tonsillitis all week. Better today but still got temperature and didn't want him to make everyone else sick. Just feeling bit sad that he's missed out . School have said he can have look round when he's better but he'll miss meeting the other kids. He's the only one going there from his nursery so won't know anyone. Sorry not much point to this post. Anything else I can do to make transition easier.

He'll be fine! Kids are very accepting and make and break friends very easily.

Aaah hope he's better soon. My dd didn't do her induction days because we weren't offered her school until after them. So on day 1 she didn't know anyone at all. At 4 and 5 they are very accepting. There will be lots of opportunity for your ds to play and make friends when he starts. It might be nice to go for the show-round when he's better though so he can see where he's going.

You're right I'm sure he'll be fine and that I'm worrying over nothing.

I remember worrying when dd missed hers. It's s big step, natural to worry a wee bit about it.

My daughter went to hers but we popped in one day to buy the school jumpers and the reception teacher saw her and invited her back in to have another look at the classroom. She was excited about this extra trip and it didn't matter that the other new children weren't there.

So I reckon a good reception teacher will for a pre arranged extra visit make a big fuss of them and if you don't show that you are worrying because he missed it then it won't matter too much. September is a long way away for little children and do forget who they met anyway. And its a good sign that the school has said he can come on another day - shows a school with flexibility.

My dd had her induction morning for reception this week. When she came out I asked her all about it and any new friends she had made and she couldn't remember any names of anyone she had played with. All the children had name labels, but obviously they are for the teachers benefit as the kids can't read yet. I'm sure by the end of the first week she will have made friends though so I'm not worried.

Definitely go for a visit round the school though, so you know where to hang coats and bags, where the toilet is, child can meet the teacher etc.

Does the school have any other induction events?

A visit at another time will be just as good.

The school summer fair would be worth a trip too.
