Year R child not being heard reading at all - normal?

My 5yo DD insists she hasn't read to a teacher at all so far this term. instead she reads by herself in the 'book corner' apparently.

She's on yellow band at school, but whizzes through Orange and Turqoise at home with fluency, expression and comprehension all fine. We don't even bother taking yellow books from school anymore!

Does this sound right? The highest band in the class is yellow, but there are a few reading way beyond that. I don't intend to speak to teachers about it as we read well at home and I'm loathe to piss them off with pushy parenting!

Actually I would have a quiet word . It is not pushy to ask about how reading books are allocated. At the school where my children went, some had a reading age 4 years above their chronological age so books were available for them. A few were super bright! I would ask why no-one is hearing her read and why her reading books appear static. If she does not read to a TA or her teacher, how can they know what her capabilities are? Go and have a friendly word. It really will not do any harm and can only do good.

It's not pushy parenting to make a polite enquiry. Even strong readers should be heard reading at school, to check that decoding is sound, child can use inference, comprehension skills developing etc.

Have a word to set your mind at rest.

Alternatively - you can just leave it as it is only a few weeks left in the year. As far as i can see not much learning is happening in the weeks of the year - my kids keep having trips, fun visits, class shows, etc.

At the start of the next school year they would be assessed and, I am sure, he'd get a much higher level.

Id have a word. There is still 5 weeks ish. A lot of progress can be made in 5 weeks. I wouldn't just leave it and hope things pick up next year....

Ask, but don't go on the offensive, get the teacher's side of it.

She might be doing group reads now, for example, which she is not counting as reading as it's not one to one any more.

Does no-one write in her reading record?
DD in reception reads to a teacher or TA once a week, occasionally twice. This is in addition to guided reading (whatever that is).
She's on Stage 4 (pale blue).

I would definitely question it. There is no way I would sit back.
