Phonics test

My son tells me he was told his score straight after his test today. Is this normal since last year my daughter had no clue till we got her end of school report. Also is it the norm for his teacher to carry out the test? Again the only reason I ask is because that wasn't the case for DD last year.

As much as results for schools aren't released Ofsted do look at them. So it isn't really in their best interests for her to fail. I'm sure if they felt it was going to be an issue and they were able to they would have done it another time.

I think for a child with secure phonics knowledge, the test is simple enough that it shouldn't cause enough of a problem that they'd fail because they were tired. They might not get 40, but they shouldn't fail.

Dd came home with a plastic medal and said "dunno" when I asked what it was for. Teacher confirmed next day it was from doing "really well" in the phonics check. Doubt the check will make much difference as there's already "reading club"after school for some kids needing extra help and various extensions for those who are reading novels. His report didn't mention it at all, oddly.

It's statutory for schools to have to report the result to you.
