So, how many school sweatshirts does your 4/5 year old have?

When dd started school in August, it was summer, but I was too tight to buy her a summer dress, so she wore a school pinafore, polo shirt, and her sweatshirt went to school in her bag, but haedly ever got worn.

Now it is WINTER, and she has a sweatshirt on every day, over the top of her dress. Dress remains clean most of the week, sweatshirt is smeared with food every day! She's only got two- do i really need to buy a sweatshirt for every day of the week to avoid washing three times a week?

How many do yours get through?

DS2 (5) has 3, but one now has a large hole in the front. He says he stuck a pencil through it. Duh.

one each for son in p3 and daughter in p2

DS has 3 and DD has about 10 (she gets all the old ones DS grows out of).

DS1 has 2 jumpers (not sweatshirts - horrible acrylic things that you can't tumble dry but at least they don't take long to dry and don't need ironing) but he's another one who takes it off as soon as he gets to school and leaves it off all day.
I mostly just need to wash the one he's been wearing all week at the weekend.

Now...shirts...... that's another issue

my poor dd1 has been making do with one sweatshirt since she started ! must go off and get her a couple more
2 pinafores, 1 trousers and 6 polo tops
was too tight at the time to get 2 sweatshirts...prob wash once through week and again at weekend

DD still has only one pair of trousers as I bought her summer dresses to start off with but now it is freezing so she wears trousers all week, good job she doesn't get them too dirty .

We have to plan ahead for sweatshirts as you order then thorugh the school, all the other schools can be bought in the National Schoolwear shop. Not expensive just a pain as they do it once a year.

We are getting away with two sweatshirts for a professional four year old food spiller. (Yesterday, she managed to spill hot chocolate on the inside of her polo shirt, but not on the outside of her sweatshirt. Anyone care to explain that one?!)

She wears them every day and I only wash when the stains are really obvious. Mind you, we have a Rayburn which is always warm, so I can wash last thing at night and still have a dry sweatshirt in the morning.

my (tomboy) dd is an utter nightmare, I wash her entire uniform from tights to cardigan (and even tie!) every night due to her coming home covered from head to toe in mud! I also scrub mud off shoes and ScuffKote EVERY DAY!
I sympathise...

DD1 has 2 cardys and 2 jumpers

Bozza · 29/11/2006 11:46

DS has 3 (plus 2 old ones for emergencies). I think 2 is too few unless you want to be doing a dark wash everyday. DS is still on his first one this week, but some weeks it might be the third.

julienetmum · 29/11/2006 12:03

Dd started off the term with just one jumper. I was hoping to get another fromthe swop shop but they havn't had any in her size.

I reluctantly bought another as she got marker pen down the first and it won't come out. Not a joke at £18 a time and I wanted to hand them down to ds.

I generally use a baby wipe to get any obvious things off and get 2 or 3 days wear out of her jumpers but I still have to use the marker penned one sometimes.

She does have both a painting and lunch tabard though. Often I find she has taken her jumper off during the day.

OP, mine have 2 sets of their basic school uniform - one on, one in the wash. It means that I have to do washing every other day but that is cheaper than buying more uniform which gets ruined or outgrown anyway and takes up far too much drawer space! The alternative is to have one set and let them wear it covered in paint etc. everyday - let's face it - it doesn't really matter since there will be a new paint layer every day and the kids don't mind!
