I don't want DS to be withdrawn for intervention.

DS (8) is being withdrawn from lessons for interventions. I queried with CT who says he is receiving help with handwriting and mental maths. I don't have a problem with this per se, but I don't like that he has to miss another lesson to do this. Today he missed ICT, last week it was PE - both lessons he loves. Is this usual? I thought interventions were for 15 minutes or so and done during registration or assembly etc. not another whole hour of maths or literacy.
In his last report he was average for writing and above average for reading and maths.
Do I have the right to ask them not to withdraw him?

I would never make a child miss PE. It is important. And they love ICT, so that's cruel. We only do during-class interventions with children who truly cannot access the curriculum.

Staff do not have to teach outside normal teaching sessions (and some don't) it's down to personal choice with no pressure from above to do so.

Thank you. Your answers have helped me see the situation from some other points of view. I have asked for a quick meeting with the CT after school to find out exactly what's involved. I asked DS what they do during intervention and he said it's with the class TA and they do a worksheet or they do some maths. I will also find out what the reason for/aim of the intervention is and if I can support that at home.
