Best Private schools in Bristol

Hello we will be moving to Bristol in October from Australia, I have a four year old daughter and a two year old son. I was wondering if you could tell me what are the best private schools in Bristol. Ideally they would be coed schools, so I will only need to do one drop off/pick up and preferably catholic. If you have also an idea on cost that would be good.
Thankd

Not necessarily at primary level in bristol, no. The are some very good state primary schools. The issue however is getting a place at them which is why private school may be a better option in terms of spaces.
Cost is roughly about £7500 -£9000 per annum for primary but check!

There are some nice family areas around North Bristol. The closest area would Bradley Stoke, which is a little characterless as it's all housing built in the last 30 years, but the area itself has lots to offer young families. Leisure centre with swimming pool, library, brownies, cubs, numerous groups for pre schoolers. Everything in walking/ safe off road cycling. Public transport into central Bristol, near to main shopping centre at Cribbs Causeway. There is a Catholic primary called St. Mary's, but you would only be able to send them there if there happened to be an available place. My children have also been to Silverhill School in Winterbourne, which is a private primary (with nursery and wrap around care) and I too have been very pleased. Winterbourne is an easy commute to Aztec and is a good family friendly area. Tockington school could also offer the same in terms of childcare and both would I'm sure find space for your children. If you want to be more central Bristol then I'd look at Stoke bishop, Westbury on Trym areas for easiest access to Aztec. You'd need to look at BGS, Clifton High, Clifton College or Torwood for private co-ed schools then. State schools are often very good at primary level, but the best ones are often very oversubscribed, and if full, a school is not obliged to give you a place - the local education authority will find you a place at your closest school with a space, which may not be to your liking.

There is thiswww.stmarysbradleystoke.org.uk/ Catholic primary school in Bradley Stoke which is close to Aztec West. As a state school I guess you would have to read the admissions policy to check any stipulations on where you may need to live to get places.

Off the top of my head:

North Bristol/South Gloucestershire private schools include:
Silver Hill
Tockington Manor
Colstons
Gracefield

A bit further afield and rural but commutable to Aztec West

Grittleton
Westonbirt

St Mary's Catholic (state) primary school is the right side of Bath (in Weston), if that's of any interest.

Hello Ladies,
We are also considering to move to Bristol from Sydney, so more ozzi to come:)
I have the same question but different age groups. My kids are in Year 7 and Year 1. Looks like private schools will be included in the package (not 100% sure yet), so I am trying to understand what school will be better. We are after coed school as well. Are there any school which accept from Year 1 to year 12? Or they are separate primary and high school?
We will also consider public schools, what schools would you recommend?

My husband will work somewhere at Winterstoke Rd, Bristol, not sure if this is a good area or not. We will probably try to find accommodation not far from his work.
My older son is a top performer and studies in the enrichment class, so would be great to find a proper level for him. Appreciate any tips and suggestions to check.
Thank you

Bristol Grammar is probably the top academic coeducational independent school in Bristol. It has a junior section as well. QEH is an all boys school but has or will have girls in year 12/13. It also goes all through and has a very good reputation in Bristol. Colstons is another other coed independent - not so academic and takes quite a wide range of ability from my experience. Does have a prep as well. All do lots of sport/music/drama etc. Just thought Clifton College is also coed - very expensive - has a prep up to yr 8 and then move to high school. Saturday school/sport and boarding options. Local families of academic children would probably not choose unless they needed a boarding option. Clifton High - used to be girls, coed now but quite small I think? Had a good academic rep for girls but I haven't heard too much about it recently! Central Bristol state schools (non fee paying) are quite variable and difficult to get into a good one! Bristol Cathedral is one to look at, Redland Green is the other well regarded. St Mary Redcliffe if you are church going although for in year entry that may not matter. After those 3 they become increasingly more variable!!

Bristol grammar school
Clifton college
Colstons
Clifton high school
Are the only co-ed independents that cover the age range you want, that I know of.
Agree with pp that Bristol grammar has the most academic reputation of these and I believe is the only one of the four to select on academic grounds.
Winterstoke road is very central.
You need to double check whether school fees are included in the package, it's not the norm in the UK and fees can be very expensive. It would have cost me £250k to educate my 2 dds at Bristol grammar reception to 6th form and that was 10 years ago when we had places offered there . Clifton college will be more.
Good luck with the move!

BGS is the best academic school in Bristol of that's what you are after. If only for primary though then you should consider Torwood house.
If the catholic aspect is important consider going to a state catholic school. They have different admission criteria and where I live have a very good reputation as they are selective about who they take (no idea if Bristol has the same reputation though).
Moving over from Australia and being able to afford Bristol private school fees you are probably wanting to look at areas like Westbury on trym, Redland and Clifton to live.

Bristol Catholic schools at secondary level select on Catholic grounds but I think there is only one, St bernadettes?

catslife · 10/05/2017 16:17

I think the catholic option was for the original OP melody rather than maria.
The closest area to Winterstoke Road is Southville. You could also consider Long Ashton/ Bower Ashton on the edge of the city. The closest state secondary school would be Ashton Park and could have vacancies for Y7. It has a sports specialisation (it's close to Ashton Park stadium just off Winterstoke Road) and is officially a good school. They do have extra provision for academically able children. Primary schools Ashton Gate, Ashton Vale, Southville Primary.
