Arduino for learning about electronics/coding?

I've been reading about this and wonder whether it's suitable for a Y6/11-year old child who is interested in "how things work" but not very experienced with coding/programming etc. Has anyone heard of it/used it? I'm wondering if it would be a good introduction for a child (with adult help) or whether it would be frustrating?

Ds is in Yr 7 and loves arduino. I think it might be hard going if you did not have an adult on hand to help out where you get stuck.

There are loads of really fun projects if you get into it.

I think when the first kit and board arrives, it could be daunting as it looks like circuitry not a toy.

DS in year 3 has been programming Raspberry Pi for a while in both Scratch and Python and is just about to start on the Arduino. He has also had lots of fun using Robotiky which goes from using drag and drop block coding a bit like Scratch right through to proper coding, which you then download to your robot to make it move around.

thank you to both of you for helpful replies.
Robotiky sounds interesting. I looked at the website, though, and couldn't find information about where or how to purchase....?!?!

Hmm, good question, I helped crowd fund the project but not sure if it is in general production yet. Is there a contact email on the webpage, as the chaps behind it are incredibly helpful. It is possible to write code for an 'online robot' to follow, might be possible to get access to that?
