School with pylon very close to playing field

I apologise if this seems a silly question , but after chatting with a friend today about this I now am panicking, and just wanted to hear other peoples opinions.
We are moving to village where we would be in catchment for the local primary school. (My ds will be starting September 2016) This school has a great reputation, good ofsted and great facilities. It has a very large playing field, which happens to be very close to a pylon. To be honest I hadn't thought much of it until a friend said to me she is surprised a school is allowed to be so close, and she wouldn't send her child there because of the risks. I am now really worried. Would it put you off a school?

I think (happy to be corrected) that the strength of electric fields drops of with the square of the distance. So whilst I would maybe be unhappy with buying a house 5m from a pylon, I don't think I'd have a problem with a school that had a pylon at the far side of a large playing field.

Provided they weren't sleeping next to it, flying kites under it or climbing it I wouldn't have a problem.

There is no evidence of a link between electromagnetic energy and cancer despite various claims. TeenAndTween is correct that the strength of an electrical field falls with the square of the distance.

Thanks for your responses, they've reassured me a bit!
