I have seen reports that marker pens are harmful to young children, eg

crafts.creativebug.com/dangers-use-permanent-markers-1065.html

Schools are using parker pens more and more. Any views from parents and teachers?

Even Wiki says Sharpies aren't harmful. The two more harmful chemicals which used to be used in permanent markers were changed several years ago: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharpie_%28markers%29

As for whiteboard markers - first page of google brought up no UK based health issues at all.

Your link seems to have an issue with methyl isobutyl ketone

I hope every school is controlled/monitored to uses safe pens, and not cheaper harmful pens.

control and monitoring specifically of pen branding? I would think that unlikely.

I am more worried about the 'incidental' harmful effects of Sharpies TBH.

Like for instance the time DS1 drew Cara Delevigne eyebrows on his sleeping 17yr old sister.

Honestly, there are no harmful pens.

Some have tiny amounts of solvent, but not enough to cause harm, unless you ate a few boxes.

Those are cheap pens Sunflower!

I used to love a good secret sniff of a permy marker when I was wee. Then my mum told me I'd turn into a punk living homeless on the streets of London. We lived in Arbroath...

Don't go to Disneyland Sunflower, you'll see a huge amount of this on little children.

I just did a google search 'white board marker pens harmful' and found many links,

You could do a Google search and find anything harmful.
Look at dihydrogen monoxide. That shit is everywhere is schools an can kill! www.dhmo.org/facts.html

LynetteScavo · 16/04/2015 21:56

There are so many substances out there which may harm small children, whiteboard pens are the least of my worries.

DeeWe · 16/04/2015 22:05

I think Op, you need to go and research the harmful effects of drinking too much water. Grin

Or maybe you sucked your pencil as a child? Did you know the effects of lead poisoning are on the developing brain. And of course we all know that pencils have leads inside them Wink

Sigh . I'm not getting that proper buzz off my Magic Marker, either. They don't make 'em like they used to, do they?

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 16/04/2015 22:31

It's the big issue in NHS budgetting, ragged. The variable quality of the buzz you get off whatever markers are being supplied at the moment.
