starting details from allocated school - when?

Hi, I'm one of those waiting for school allocation day later this week. Just wondering if anyone knows when do you typically get contact from the actual school, in particular about starting date/introduction pattern for each child? Some of our school "choices" had quite length/complex settling in periods, so will be really handy to have this info asap so can plan nursery ending/finance/time off work etc.

Thanks!

Late June we heard I remember. Some schools are more organised though.

My school send a letter out after the May half term holiday. They invite all the new parents to an open evening to explain everything in early June and you are given the start dates, uniform list etc at the open evening.

Agree with others I think it was after half term. You could always contact your allocated school if you needed to know (or at least gt an idea) earlier?

I think it was mid-May for us. They wait until all replies are back with the council and late admissions are dealt with.

Ours sent a letter to DD with a little booklet for her to colour in and "write" or draw a few things so they could talk about it with them. We had three play afternoons, due to work we only attended two.

There was a ore information evening in June for the parents only with all the practical stuff. We found it worth both going as it was a lot to take in especially as we had no other child in school and come from different countries.

The meeting for parents is usually in June, so the letters would usually go out in May.

I think if you live in an area with a bit of a scramble for school places (with lots of waiting list hanging on because you've not got any of your choices or have been allocated a school miles away), then the schools tend to give out details really late (July for us!) so that they stand more chance of giving packs out to children who will actually be attending the school in September.

But if there is a lengthy settling in scheme, hopefully that means you are in a saner area. But lots of schools (for lots of reasons) are very last minute with details of events which is frustrating after the comparatively organised and communicative world of nursery. We had 3 days notice of our parents evening slots this year (although knew the four days it might be on about 2 months beforehand). It is easier once you get used to expecting the unexpected!

June for us. There is a lot of waiting list movement at our school. I have the original class list for DD class from June. 9/30 never started still!!

June for us also - the school office told me they don't send anything out until after the second continuing interest run.

We had the parents information session on the same morning as DS first went into the classroom before the holidays. We also knew that reception only do 1/2 days the first week, and the INSET days were published so admittedly for us the settling in period was a lot less complex.

I remember it being a fairly agonising wait...I think we eventually heard something mid June. I'd already rang them by then as I was concerned the settling in session would be whilst we were away on holiday..luckily it was the day before we went!

thanks all - sounds like it's likely to be a while :(

If I'm remembering the open days correctly, our likely school has a starting pattern that means DD won't be starting at all until about the 3rd week of term... and then have a couple of weeks of random mornings/afternoons before starting "full time". I'd like to settle my mind about the complex school/nursery combination for the first half term asap - but does also have to be said I'm wondering we can sneak in an early September holiday before she begins :)
