We are thinking of moving to Hereford with our two girls, one baby and one who will start school Sept 16 and want to be settled by the end of this year to get her primary applications done. So my question is, based on primary schools, where would the best area be? What primary schools have the best reputations and what should be avoided like the plague? I have looked at some ofsted reports but in my experience where we are at the moment, ofsted reports don't count for everything and I'd appreciate some more local knowledge based advice.

From a non school point of view we are looking at being within walking or easy bus route distance of the town and quite like whitecross, kings acre, st James areas based on what we can afford.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help Smile

I would look at catchment for secondaries and so avoid going South of the river unless RC or C of E faith place an option.

The primaries in the areas you list all have ok/good reputations. Would also suggest looking at Tupsley area for St Paul's and Hampton Dene schools which give catchment places at Bishops.

Hereford has improved lots as a place to live since I was a teen and 2 of my siblings are happy raising kids in surrounding villages.

Thanks so much marialuisa, I will add tupsley to the search area. I went to Hampton Dene myself! I didn't think about secondaries because it seems so far away and schools seem to change over time but you're right. Such a big decision to make so really appreciate your reply.

Good luck. Hereford is odd with secondaries, the general order of bad to good doesn't seem to have shifted in 20 years!

Ah that's interesting. Hubby just told me he'd quite like to be in a village with pub, cricket club, post office etc, just to stir things up for my search even more! Think he is looking for the impossible dream!

bartestree or Lugwardine? Wormelow or Weobley (may be a bit too far out of town for you though)? Dsis very happy in Fownhope with bil playing on the village team and a nice gym/pool in the village.

Having spent years being glad to have escaped I now think I would be happy to move back!

Tehe, me too! And many of my friends have done the same...
