Help
Does anyone know what happens when your child's hand is out of action and they cant write their SATS papers? DD1 had a nasty accident last week - not broken, but wrist tendons/ligaments severely sprained and can't move wrist, let alone write, for several weeks.
Personally, I'm more focused on her starting new school in september than what she does or doesn't get for SATS, but she was due to sit 2 or 3 of the level 6 papers. presumably that's all off the table now????

Shocking timing!!! Poor DD1 in a lot of pain bless her. I don't want her to get to school Monday and be upset by what needs to happen and how she may not pass???

Thanks in advance for your help!

They can have a scribe, not a problem for an injury.

Thanks Spaniel - I have heard of kids with other long term issues having scribes, I wasn't sure if the school would be set up to offer one so close to the dates - I presume they must have contingency plans for these sort of things. its a big time commitment to have a personal scribe for a week - just hope it works out all ok. She can't write down her workings to solve her maths homework so even that is a problem right now. You have to completely change your way of working things out if you cant write yourself! It would be good if there were some PC based tests she could manage a multiple choice with her left hand! (lets just say her ipad use with her left hand is quite advanced it seems......)

I'm sure online tests will come but just not yet!

It's not actually for the whole week, just a couple of sessions a day. They'll more than likely be able to find a TA from another class, or the deputy if they're not class based.

Sats tends to be the priority for that week so none of the other teachers mind (or could mind!) about a bit of disruption.

thanks for your comments - that's put my mind at rest.
I think the flute exam in June is off too!
And so is helping to unload the dishwasher... putting her clothes away.... taking out the rubbish. in fact all her chores for her pocket money!

DS broke both bones in his left wrist the week before he did his SATS (he's right handed). I emailed the school to request 25% extra time as I thought he'd need it for Maths ie manipulating a ruler or protractor. They just gave him 25% extra across the board, and organised it with 1 week's notice. It just meant they needed to find a room for him to sit in my himself and someone to sit with him. (He hated me for it - on average he finished a Maths paper in about 20 minutes and then had to continue to sit there into the extra 25% extra, when he could hear the others playing outside.)

When I taught year 6 I had a very able girl once who came off a horse a week or so before and sprained her wrist so she couldn't write so she had a scribe. For her, the most important thing was to practice dictating to her scribe as she had to remember to tell the scribe to write the full stops, capital letters etc in. IF (and only if) you want to give your DD a bit of a practice at that, it might help her to get used to it more quickly and set her mind at rest.
