Supporting 8 year old DS

My son is 8 years old and is in Year 3. I recently asked his father to leave our home; this has understandably had an adverse effect on DS and he became withdrawn, angry and sullen - most unlike his normal self as it is possible to be.

At any rate I kept him off school yesterday and today as I could see he was upset. As it is I want to support him at school but am wondering if giving him a bit more time is possibly the answer: he seems relaxed at home.

If I effectively 'withdraw' him for a few weeks - is this permitted? Can he go back (say) after Easter, if he feels ready, or would this involve a lot of paperwork and the like?

Any ideas? If it's relevant I also have a nearly one year old DD and am expecting no3 this summer.

Have you made the school aware of the situation? I would make an appointment to talk to the teacher/head to discuss how you can best work together to help at a difficult time. Personally I don't think keeping him home is helpful in the long term and could often make it worse.
