Primary schools in/ near Horsham

My little boy is almost one and while I know it's far too early I've started thinking about where he might go to school.
I live in Rudgwick near Horsham. Rudgwick has it's own primary too which I think is good.
Can anyone help me with the best primaries in or near Horsham or Rudgwick please? I've no idea where to find this stuff out! Or show me where to look?
What catchment area will I be in? (I'm the Guildford side from Horsham).
Does your choice of primary school affect your chances at certain secondary schools?
Thanks so much !!

.You are in the West Sussex catchment if you live in Rudgwick and your nearest primary is Rudgwick primary which is delightful and our kids have been very happy there. We have been very pleased indeed with the school.

Your next nearest primaries are at Loxwood (Guildford side of Horsham), Plaistow and Kirdford, Slinfold, inchingfield and Billingshurst. I dounbt you would get into a horsham primary from Rudgwick but, to be fair, I don't know of anyone who had tried for any other reason than church affiliation. There are also primaries around Cranliegh, they are in Surrey catchment but you could apply as 'out of area' for a place. Look at Ewhurst primary.

Your choice of primary does not have any relation to the secondary school you end up going to as you apply again with the same admissions criteria, which is distance to school, siblings and so on. But not which primary you went to.

All of the above refers to state schools, of course. There is also Pennthorpe to look at if you are considering private. That also has a good rep.

Ah thank you that's helpful. It's really good to hear that Rudgwick primary is a nice school. I'm so close it would seem the obvious choice really. I'll check a few of the others out just in case.

Secondary schools are more difficult then - would my boy not get into Horsham ones for those either?
If not, what areas?

Definitely go on open days to see the schools in action and get a feel for Rudgwick primary. I remember being struck by how safe, calm and nurturing it felt and I immediately knew it was the right place.

For secondaries, You would be between the catchments for The Weald in Billingshurst (is an outstanding school) and Gleblands in Cranleigh (A surrey school rather than sussex) depending on how the boundary lines go. Personally, I am delighted my children will be going to The Weald, especially as it has a really strong sixth form. But schools change over the years and you are long way off thinking secondary.

Your choices for secondary in horsham are Tanbridge House in Broadbridge Heath (also an outstanding school) and Forest for boys in horsham (good with outstanding features, I think). We are in a very strong area indeed for state schools. Having seen the struggle my inlaws have gone through in London, schooling really couldn't be more easy for us, I think.

I'm not that far from you and have to agree with shipwrecked that you are in a very strong area for state schools. Don't discount your local village primary as I find the social aspect for both children and adults is invaluable. Glebelands in Cranleigh doesn't have a great reputation although I have heard good things recently. The only issue I can see is that with the amount of housing going up in Cranleigh at the moment, Glebelands has the potential to become very overcrowded over the next few years. Horsham schools are popular - I have a friend who moved there recently and has ended up home educating her primary age DC while she waits for a place locally.
