DD (Year 1), has missed the last 3 days of half term this week, due to bad cold / cough / high temperature.

Would you :- Ring the school and ask teacher to send half-term homework home in a friend's bag, or would you think, 'Nah, stuff it, she's only 5 - how much will she miss!'?

Only thinking of specific stuff like spelling lists / maths tasks which might be peculiar to her group - can easily find out general homework from neighbour. She has a reading book to read.

We've also just had a parents' evening and she's doing really well, so not worried about lack of progress or anything.

Am inclined to be of the 'Sod it' brigade and think she should just have a relaxing half-term!! Also not sure that her teacher is back in, as she has chicken pox and wasn't back in on Tuesday, which was the last day DD was in!

I think DH thinks I should ring, but don't really see the need!

TIA

if she is in reception, unlikely to have any homework other than a reading book anway....i'd ring and say she will catch up after the hols, after she has recuperated! if she is doing well, i wouldn't worry...

Thanks lulamama - she's in Year 1 and has had quite a lot of homework already (too much IMO, but that's another thread ) like spelling, maths, weekend diary etc.

I wouldn't bother tbh - I'm sure she'll catch up.

I think they get too much as well. DD2 (Yr 2 and 6) has 2 lots + her reading this holiday and DD1 (Yr 6 and 10) doesn't have anything (or at least thats what she says!)

lulumama · 27/10/2006 13:51

i would still leave it then...let her rest & it is unlikely she will miss much....even in year 1 ! and then you don't have to stress about doing the work with her and you can enjoy half term too!

JonesTheSteam · 27/10/2006 13:54

Thanks for setting my mind at rest.

She's currently sitting on the settee in jumper, fleece, fur gilet and covered by a blanket. And still saying she's cold. She keeps just dozing off!!

She's never really been unwell (apart from a D&V bug last year). Her temperature was 39.5 yesterday afternoon and I've been really worried about her.

Think she needs time to recuperate!!

Definitely do not worry about homework. My dd is in Y 1 and has had homework and spellings every week but the teacher has not sent any home for half term as she says they need the rest.

If she still has a temp after several days have you seen the docs?

Loshad · 27/10/2006 23:06

we had far too much for half term, definately wouldn't chase it for your DD, hope she's a bit better soon.

busybusymum · 05/11/2006 19:43

Whenever my children are off school I always ask for catch up work to be send home but have never had any sent.

At that age I wouldnt worry, DC will catch up quickly!

let her get better, don't worry about what she is missing at school, she is only little let her enjoy having time to chill out,
