KS2 tutors what to look for?

Hi, DS is in year 4 and we are looking to hire a tutor to help give him a boost as secondary school looms! He's smart but lacks concentration at times and struggles a little at English comprehension although he is meeting his targets at (state) primary.

Looking on gumtree there are an array of tutors, is there any particular type of tutors I should be looking for? I.e an experienced state primary school teacher v's an independent school private tutor and teacher? Does it matter?

Thanks in advance any advise is appreciated, he's our eldest so this is all new to us but would like to give him the best opportunity for state secondary schools as well as boost his confidence.

Are you looking at selective grammars that he will have to sit the 11+ for? If not, then how he does in KS2 won't affect his chances of getting in to a state secondary. The factors that will influence his admission are the distance that you live from the school and whether you meet other criteria they have, ie if they are a faith school.

Thanks for the reply 2cats no not for grammars and I understand the admissions procedure for state, it's more for boosting his confidence and improving his maths and English which will help him when he gets to secondary school.

We have just started a tutor for DD yr5 for maths as she is below average for the area (& I'm concerned about her being in the bottom set at high school).
We found her via a friend, I think via recommendation is the best bet. The tutor is currently a KS2 teacher (state) which is important to me as I feel she is fully aware of the required curriculum. But most importantly my DD really likes her and looks forward to her coming, they have really jelled and this has helped boost her confidence.
