Any teacher's around please? Question regarding current levels and end of year prediction

I have a question regarding levels. I am needing dd's school to give me current levels plus predicted end of year levels because of a school place appeal. Thy have given this to me but they are saying her current level in maths will be the predicted end of year level too. Is this usual? I know it's all child dependant but her writing is different and I don't really understand why she wouldn't improve at all over the next 5 months?

FYI her current level is a 4a and she was told that she was very nearly a 5. So if this is the case and she is currently nearly a 5 surely she will achieve this by the end of the school year?

In regards to the lack of progress, it is quite common for children to plateau in Year 6, but that is normally when they are working within Level 5. 4a to 5c is a bit of a leap but less so in maths than writing for example.

People keep banging on in this thread about 5 months but the SATs are in just over two months (second week of May I think).

My one concern would be the KS1 to KS2 progress. 2a to 4a is only 6 sublevels progress which is only satisfactory. They should be aiming for 7 and they should be running a Level 5 booster group imho, if she is that close. I would speak to the teacher about this three marks off and then query what they (and you) could do to help get achieve a level 5 if that is what you think she needs (I'm an expert on primary assessment data but I don't have a clue about grammar school requirements I'm afraid).

Odyssey3001 I have only givenotice maths levels On this thread.this is the subject do struggles with out of all the subjects at school. Although she isn't behind. I haven't included all levels as I am not asking re grammar appeal. I am not worried about 'only' making 2 levels progress because she finds maths harder than other subjects so 2 levels is okay. her other subjects are different. One slightly weaker subject should be okay. It's not bad considering the stats all say 4b at the end of year 6.

Eddas, can I add something to my earlier comments? Please, when you're at the appeal don't say that girls often struggle with maths. If you have women on the board, particularly women who are mathematically strong, I think this could put their backs up.

I'd acknowledge that your dd is weaker on maths, but focus on her strengths, and how a grammar school education will be right for your dd given these strengths.

Thanks jeee yes I agree I shall mention dd but won't be saying girls are generally weaker in my appeal Smile
