Reception Expectations

Just wondering if any Reception teachers can help?
My DD is loving reception and her reading/writing is progressing. What is expected by the end of reception? I know there are lots of descriptions on line, they are all so long and not very clear!
Thanks in advance

Don't worry if your child isn't doing these things yet, my lo didn't reach any of her elgs but she has caught up with the class now in year 1, some just take a little lomger

Dont forget there are lots of ELGs, not only academic ones. Its unlikely any YR child will manage to meet them all. Some children sail ahead in one thing and even out in the others later,

My DD sailed ahead in the academic stuff (reading writing and numeracy) and they said she had "exceeded" expectations in those things. However for things like physical confidence, listening she only got "emerging". She was so daydreamy the teacher said we had better get her hearing tested.

She is in Y1 now and her maturity in these latter things has really caught up dramatically. Last year she was a daydreamer who wouldn't jump down off the lowest rung on a ladder by herself. 8 months later than the end of YR she is much taller, stronger, and throws herself around like a loon, its as if her physical confidence has all kicked in in one big go since the summer.

Other children in her class were swimming by themselves in year R and throwing themselves off trampolines and climbing a whole climbing wall, but were much slower at the whole reading and writing thing.

Of course as they move through school it becomes apparent that some children are just more able than others. But at such a young age as YR/Y1, if a child appears to be "behind" in something it may just be their developmental timetable rather than the fact that they are not able in that field.
