Help needed with KS1 to KS2 progress stats....Any teachers around please

Are any teachers around to help please? I have a report from my dd's school (dd is in year 6). The report says her progress between KS1 and KS2 is 101.5 in maths, 104.5 in science etc. Can someone explain what this means in terms of my dd's overall ability. Or if it does mean anything!?

I have her overall levels eg 4a etc but the headteacher briefly explained the progress KS1 to KS2 but I don't really understand, so a basic explanation would be very appreciated. He indicated a score of 100+ was a good thing but that it didn't go much over 100, maybe up to 105?

DISCLAIMER I don't normally worry about levels, as long as dd & ds and doing ok and their teachers are happy then that's all good. However, an impending school appeal forces my new obsession and need to understand!

Thanks in advance.

Progress score wouldn't tell you much about ability unless you knew the8r starting point. It's a standardised score with the average set at 100. so a child making exactly the expected amount of progress across a key stage (2 levels) would have a score of 100. A score of more than 100 would show that a child has made more than expected progress. 101 would obviously indicate less progress than 104, which is much more than expected progress.

In terms of actual attainment, that's going to look very different depending on what her ks1 results are. If she got level 1 then she was below expectations but is closing the gap with a progress score above 100. If she was level 2 then she was meeting expectation but is making more progress than you would expect.

Ah ok I get it now! I have her levels from years 1-6 as well as the overall progress. I knew the expected progress is 2 whole levels between KS1 and KS2 and was trying to work out how the progress levels would show anything extra, which clearly they won't as they just show the position if all you know is the end level, ie if 100+ they have reached the target?

So dd's all being over 100 is good then, her progress is at the right level for her starting point in KS1 as these are her current levels and she still has half a year to go, that's pretty good.

Thanks RafaIsTheKingOfClay if I could look into all of this at a sensible hour I might not ask such obvious questions!!
