We are about to move to Cambridge and will need to move our son to one of the local primary schools. What are the best primary schools in the city? Many thanks!

My children are past primary age but I still know people whose children attend Park Street. It's very small, inclusive and (for a state primary) pretty academically driven. Parental involvement, commitment, interest and mutual support is high. Pastoral and spiritual support was exceedingly good when my DC attended the school and I'd doubt that this has changed. The emphasis on good manners, kindness and good behaviour has always been deemed to be high and well modelled by staff. Staff turnover is low AFAIK and staff really know each individual child well.

I can't understand why you're not allowed to visit. How can you make a decision if you can't see the school in action? I was welcomed to visit, did so, was shown around by the headmistress and invited to return if I had any questions or wanted a second look (ours was also an in-year application). If it sounds like your kind of school you might want to contact them again in case there's been some kind of misunderstanding. Confused

My eldest went to St Pauls, which was very good at the time (1997 - 2001) and my two youngest have been, and one is still at, Morley. I do like Morley a lot, however, there is a lot of coming and going as academic families do move in and out of the area and a higher than normal amount of families take their children out at the end of year 2 to pop off to one of the local independents. The teaching is good as is the pastoral side, although it is a bit on the hippy dippy side at times!

FWIW, my child attended Orchard Park when it first opened and it was lovely. I know that they struggled after he left though (not because of him leaving! Grin) because they had so much space pupils on managed moves from other schools tended to end up there.

A school I visited that I really liked was Newnham Croft. And Queen Ediths as well. As PP have said however, most schools in Cambridge are good, wherever you go.
