Grammar School at Leeds

Hi
We are considering GSAL for our ds from preschool onwards (he is currently 2 so would start next year). We have been to see the school as well as other preps in leeds and our local state schools and liked it, but interested in parents with experience, good or bad? Concerns are size (big for private school but similar to the state secondaries in the area) and 3 to 18 being a long time in one school. Anyone who either chose it or didn't have any insights?
Thanks

I know older children (secondary age that go). The first thing to know is that despite its name, it isn't a grammar school and does not get the results that a grammar school gets.It is on a par with other good independents in the area like Ashville College.

Hi Mamakata

I'm Helen Clapham, the Director of External Relations at The Grammar School at Leeds and I'm pleased that you enjoyed your visit to Rose Court. I recognise that choosing the right school for your son is very important and it's a good idea to speak to other parents. I just wanted to clarify a point, we are an independent grammar school which is different to the state grammar schools(some of which are selective and others are not). In Leeds and the surrounding area there are many good schools offering parents a wide range of options. However, on the matter of exam results at both GCSE and A level The Grammar School at Leeds results are higher than the other schools mentioned. Whilst exam results are important for many parents, we would always advise parents to visit lots of schools and choose the one where you feel that your child is going to be happiest. Many schools such as ours offer Taster Sessions so children can experience for themselves what a school is like, these coupled with visiting the school a number of times, talking to other parents, pupils and staff are a good way of getting to know more about a school. Good luck with your search!

Best wishes

Helen

Oh god. Is schools doing PR on the boards going to become a 'thing'? Hmm
