Accommodation help for school trip to London

DS is in Y5. His teacher is trying to plan a class trip to London. In the past few years her class has gone to London for a day trip, but as our school is in the back of beyond it is always a very long day, although the children have always loved it.

She is wondering whether she could make it a 2 day trip so more could be packed in, but is finding it difficult to find cheap, reasonable accommodation. Think she has looked at hostels, private schools etc but without any luck. Some places are refusing to take children so young (9 and 10 year olds). Anyone got any ideas? If your children have done similar trips where have they stayed? It is only one class going so should be about 30 children, both boys and girls, so split accommodation will be required. Trip will be in the summer term. Cost will be a factor, as not a very affluent school

Not sure, but have a feeling Youth Hostels can't guarantee exclusive bookings, so there could be members of the public also staying - I think they have to leave doors unlocked to this end as well. Not sure if that's still the case, but it's one of the reasons we stopped using them a few years back.

My 10 year-old recently stayed on HMS Belfast as part of a school trip. I don't know how the prices compare but the cost of the whole trip wasn't terrible given it also included lots of other activities too.

Lots of universities offer accomodation. Alternatively they could look at YHA London Lee Valley or any of the many other places set up for school residential visits.

You can stay on the Golden Hinde and have a Tudor experience.
DD2's school stay at a Youth Hostel but it's not exclusive access (they are year 7).

Ours have done the Golden Hinde too, they combine it with the Tower of London for a 2 day trip.

What about the youth hostel in Holland Park?

members.scouts.org.uk/cms.php?pageid=2104 If you are looking for something hostelly, but I second what someone else above said about HMS Belfast and Golden Hinde. Both excellent choices for a group 0f 30 over 9s.

Carter Lane youth hostel has group rooms. It is right between St Pauls and the Millenium wobbly bridge. I have been there with Beavers.

Baden Powel House in south Kensington? Across the road from natural history museum.

How about the Science Museum? They do sleepovers for 7-13 yr olds, cost is £45 inc breakfast and next date for booking is 6 June 2015.
