we have booked flights to go back to Hong Kong this year to see family. the school is saying its not really on and given us a form to fill out. my child has 98% attendance so far since September, not sure why this terms report has 98%, as he only had one day off in the previous term. do they carry absence stats forward?

anyway my question is do you think the school will mind us taking the last 2 days of the summer term?

whats peoples experiences? what sites can I go on to help the fight against loony government policies like this?

My son's school seems to have no problem with letting children go on substantial holidays during term time, a week's skiing etc. Actually, it irritates me because now my son is pestering me to go on holiday during term time because all his friends are, while I'm trying to instill in him the importance of not missing school.

Absence stats are usually carried forward in an academic year.

Many schools would refuse you permission, so be prepared for that. Whether that has any practical impact such as a fine is up to the local authority. Some fine, some don't.

The last two days of the summer term? The 'vomiting bug' is your friend Wink

My LEA fines after 10 sessions missed. That's 5 full days so you should be fine.
The school tells me that they are required by law to inform the LEA, but I have children at 3 different schools and only ever get fined for one child!

We'll they might "mind" but there isn't much else they can do.
They could fine you but that's all

Ours doesn't mind, as long as you ask them for Permission nicely they always say yes as far as I know. DS1 is in reception and he's has 5 days off not due to sickness ( 2 days and 3 days in a row). Both times I needed to take him abroad with me due to work, and dh was abroad elsewhere for longer with ds2. We are also going skiing in March which they have said yes to.

Please don't use the vomiting bug lie - firstly your child will be excited and will talk about it at school. Secondly at the end of the summer term there's lots to sort and bring home and if they know you will be away the teachers can sortit before you go.
