My husband and I are considering moving to the Plymouth area (Wembury) and would like to send our kids (boy and girl) to a primary private co-ed school (4-7yrs). Can anyone help me with the private schools is that area pls? We're looking at Plymouth College and Kings school, amongst others, but would some local knowledge pls! Thanks.

Depending on where you're moving from, you may find the quality and choice of Plymouth schools a bit disappointing. Certainly, I doubt they'd be up to par with the sort of schools you'd get in London, for example.

I don't know either school well, but had a friend who lived in a house near the grounds of Plymouth College. Although it's in the city, they do have nice playing fields, but the school is mostly surrounded by student rentals (and roads). This probably wouldn't be an issue for younger children, but I'm sure older children would have relatively easy access to drugs etc.

I think the biggest issue you will find is getting into the center of Plymouth from Wembury to drop your children off will be a major pain. There's no real way to get to the schools without driving through Plymouth City Center. I guess this wouldn't be such a problem if you worked in Plymouth though.

I'm sure they are both excellent schools, but those are the two major negative points which I don't think are clear from their websites. I do think Plymouth College tries to give the impression it's out in the countryside when it's really not!

Grin From what I've heard of private schools it's inside the walls where you source your drugs!

I can't offer any advice re the schools themselves but I can say I went to a state school very near to Plymouth College and managed to make it to the school gate without being accosted by dealers. It's in an urban area but it's not exactly Moss Side.

Words fail me Slow. I've read some judgemental posts on MN but that has to be amongst the worst.
FWIW we lived very close to Plymouth College for many years. It was a lovely area to live and the druggies students were an integral part of the community. We moved away from Plymouth but ds1 went back there for university. He lived in that area too as student and never saw any drug related problems.

So, un-hoik your judgy pants and, on behalf of all the residents of that area of Plymouth, have a big, fat Biscuit

Plymouth college prep is in a gated community anyway - not on the site of the main school. Slightly easier to get to from wembury than the main school (maybe - hmm not sure).

PM me if you want OP, I have inside knowledge on one of the schools. Wembury primary has always had an excellent reputation though - so if you move there I'd check it out as well.
